Catholic schools in Central Java threatened with closure for not teaching Islam

by Mathias Hariyadi

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - The demand to include Islamic teaching in Catholic schools is proving controversial again. A few months ago, the Education Department in Tegal District (Central Java) warned St Pius Catholic Schools to include Islamic courses for Muslim students.

Local authorities summoned Sister Madeleine, of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, to meet the district council to discuss the issue. The woman religious runs the Asti Dharma Foundation, which manages various St Pius schools, from primary to secondary as well as vocational training.

In yesterday's meeting with Tegal administration, the nun used all her eloquence and power of persuasion, backed by the moral and political support of Catholic lawyers and Fr Frans Widyanatardi Pr, who is in charge of Sacred Heart parish.

The row over Islamic education for Muslim students goes back a while, first raised by the Education Department and then the Religious Affairs Bureau, until local media, radio and TV, picked up the story and made it public.

The situation is critical because the sisters of the St Pius Catholic Schools have received threats and warnings, including the threat of having their schools shut down if they do not comply with the requests...........................>>>>.............................>>>>............................http://www.asianews.it/news-en.....ing-Islam-25867.html

In America, the federal government would force the Catholic School to not only teach Islam but also pay for the girls burkas.

I forgot what America is again....

wasn't it about being able to NOT be taxed by the 'king'
wasn't it about being able to practice your religion free from the 'king's' forced laws

we hide everything behind political correctness....progressive? nah....they can call it progressive but human
nature is the same....we just get moved around like pawns/dogs/sheep

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Some Conservatives are trying to force their religion on our PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

To prevent a similar issue as described above in Indonesia, the USA should keep to it's policy of "separation
of church & state" so that no religion will be forced on any American.

Freedom of religion
&
Freedom from religion.

Separation of church and state was written in a letter by Thomas Jefferson.  Don't confuse that with the Constitution's restriction on the Federal government ESTABLISHING a state religion.  Two different things.

Does your confusion between a letter and the Constitution protect the separation of state from church?  If so, how do you explain the state forcing the church to offer contraception?

I'll make it bigger so that even Cicero can comprehend...

... the USA should keep to it's POLICY of "separation of church & state"

Cicero thinks that a cop can't hand out a parking ticket, because it's not in the Constitution. Or that a
zoning law can restrict the type of building built in a community, because it's not in the US Constitution.
Or that a restaurant can't ban smoking because it's not in our Constitution.

Please cite that "separation of church and state" policy.  Looks like Obama and the U.S. Senate have violated the policy.  CALL THE FBI!!!!

Very poor examples box.  Why do you feel the need to make thing up when I destroy your arguments?

What Cicero thinks is that 50% + 1 in Congress can't pass laws telling the people of Gloversville where there should and shouldn't be parking, what the speed limits of the roads should be, and if you can or cannot smoke in a restaurant in Gloversville.  Those decisions should be left up to the people of Gloversville, along with their school curriculum - including prayer in school.

So you would be ok if a group of Muslim parents at a school board meeting passed a resolution
Forcing Muslim prayer in your school every morning.

Nope...That would be your "all or nothing" fallacious argument.  Similar to your feelings toward Planned Parenthood in public schools, if there was a large Muslim population in your school district and wanted to pray, then an accommodation could be made to allow them to pray in a private room without "forcing' other children to be subjected to it.

FYI...My arguments are based on the continued existence of compulsory government schooling.  All of this could be eliminated if compulsory schooling was eliminated.

There you have it! Cicero would have ALL taxpayers fund a "private room" for the use of his Muslim
friends who wanted to pray.
Of course his "accommodations" would include a  Minaret atop the school
also funded by the taxpayers.
