Don't understand that a sexual predator praying on children is the fault of parents......what planet do you come from???

some of these  statements sound like someone who is bitter and against mankind.....and no compassion or understanding the young mind who feels threatened.

chill out.....make an apology to those of us who think there are predators that feed off the innocence of children...and misunderstanding is the excuse they

all use...in today's world......being aware of "bad" people is the first order of business that should be taught to children....whether or not there was a

misunderstanding....children perceive threats in many ways.....and seriously?......at young ages they tend  not to lie .....

All reports of this kind have to be taken seriously.....especially in the light of "free bicycles"...etc.,....

Patches, if you reached your conclusion from reading my post, then, and I must apologize to others here for what I am about to write, you are an idiot!!
Apparently you comprehend others opinions in the same manner in which you post yours!! Scattered brained and incomprehensible. You failed to read my initial comments and then proceeded to accuse me of something for which I have no answer. Please take the time to thoroughly digest what you have read before commenting! Your reply is indicative of what I expressed in my post. JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS BEFORE ALL THE FACTS ARE KNOWN!! You are indeed a very ignorant woman. GOOD DAY!!!!!

The "free bicycle" statement sounds like a lure and was definitely a weird thing for someone to say to a bunch of unattended children at a bus stop.

Now, if there was a parent with these kids...would this man have approached them? Probably not. And twice?

As a mom of little ones, I would NEVER want someone to take these situations lightly. If a stranger in a car was luring my children away to see a free bicycle, well, that would be cause for alarm.

Word to the wise, don't approach children with free puppies, ice cream, bicycles...you're just asking for trouble if you do!

Saying that kids have a 'vivid imagination' is irresponsible!!! The kids today are raised on the FEAR FACTOR!!! I'm not saying that some of the FEAR is not justified.....HOWEVER.............these kids are being raised with FEAR of EVERYTHING.............from what they eat, watch, play, their parents, stangers, terrorists...blah blah blah.

This world is no more dangerous than it was decades ago, but the LAME STREAM MEDIA is out for vewership and increased revenue!! Try not watching the news (maybe just (1) local a day) for at least one week and see how much better your life is!

Bumblethru, you have nailed it!! We have been taught, irresponsibly I might add, to fear everything. Knee jerk reactions are now the norm. I urge all to exercise on the side of caution re: children, but there may come a day when our community is faced with a tragedy because of a perceived threat brought on by irresponsible media reports and not waiting for the truth to be told.

This is true and as a parent, I do have a lot of fear for my children. And a while back, just when I think everything is 'safe' ...a teacher my children's school system is arrested for having child pornography. It's literally everywhere.

You know out of all the fears of being a parent, I am most frightened of the sex predator. Is it an overreaction to be vigilant? I sincerely don't care if it means my children are safe...or as safe as they can be.

From the Daily Gazette

UPDATE: Police say man posed no threat to Mohon students
September 21, 2012
Updated 10:12 a.m.

Text Size: A | A | A

ROTTERDAM — Rotterdam police this morning say that parents of Mohonasen students need not be concerned after a report Thursday that a man was approaching children in the area.

The school district sent out a letter to parents on Thursday saying that a man was approaching children both while driving and on foot at and or around bus stops asking for information such as directions, according to CBS 6, The Daily Gazette’s news gathering partner.

Lt. Jason Murphy of the Rotterdam Police Department said an officer located the vehicle and person in question on Thursday. The man is a local resident and said he had just stopped to speak with the children about a few bikes he saw down the road because he thought they might belong to the children, Murphy said.

There was no attempt of abduction or any other overt threat made, Murphy said. Mohonasen School District officials and the person who lodged the original complaint were advised of the police findings.

Sorry folks, just don't approach a bunch of unattended children at a bus stop.

Seriously he doesn't know the kids and the bikes aren't on his property he's really just asking for trouble.

I'm glad a parent did call the police. Maybe that man could have contacted the police stating that there were a bunch of bikes left down a street that may have been stolen. That makes more sense don't you agree?

Looks like we DO have to depend more on our government entities than our community...huh? We have to call the cops for EVERYTHING NOW??? It appears that it doesn't take a village after all to raise up children..............it takes the GOV ALMIGHTY!!!!

I disagree Bumble, it was the community that took action. They heard of a suspicious man and did what they should do. Keep their kids safe. That's all they were doing.

On the other side, why does this man feel the need to approach a bunch of kids? You already said that we hear of this type of stuff all over the news. So why would this man be so ignorant.

Again, if he knew these kids that would certainly be different but we're in a worse society as much as we want it to be like the old days. It's just the way it is. I'm sorry to say.

I fear I must get on my soapbox.

And yet the story of a stranger talking to children at a bus stop has evoked here an almost hysterical reaction.

I have read far too many stories recently of children, with their vivid child imaginations, reporting instances of being approached by strangers, only to find out later that the story was in fact fabricated..

I remember many years ago the hysteria in an incident revolving around a Day Care center in California. People were prosecuted and went to prison over false accusations. Have we become so hardened and paranoid that any innocent interaction with a child must be construed as something to be wary of?

I have no answers myself I must confess, but I do believe we have become a paranoid society in the name of child safety. A very sad situation indeed.

Stepping down from my soapbox.

Well Loki, it doesn't sound like you agree with B GAGE "better to be safe then sorry." Reading your statements you say that children have imaginations and fabricate 'tales'. Our society is paranoid all in the name of child safety.

Pick a side of the fence Loki and stick to it. Don't just agree with something which contradicts what you initially wrote.
