Fact is, if the State does not come in, our taxes and fees will keep going up AND all the corruption (lifetime health benefits, take home cars, free cell phones) will continue to go on and on and on.
The Mayor received votes in return for his passivity towards the unions and the County for that matter.
When there are puppets, the only way to stop the show is to cut the strings. The State is the only one holding the scissors.
There are 600 foreclosed properties who care less if taxes increase. I for one see no other option other than the State Control Board. Once they see an entirely tax-exempt Downtown, a fleet of 400 vehicles with a $2 million dollar insurance bill and ultimately a Mayor who is collecting his salary along with his pension.....it all reeks......and it all needs to end.
Let the State do something which will help us...the few property owners who pay their full shares. |

Rachel72, may I make the assumption by your reply, that your answer to my question, "Would you accept more belt tightening?" as being yes? It's really all I was looking for here, and wonder why a simple yes or no answer couldn't have been given. The rhetoric on this site is suffocating to be quite honest. |

Hey LOKI.....I've seen your postings on this forum and can't help but associate the type and way you post with a stereotype of a British Nanny....is that your profession? And I am not trying to be mean, but it's strictly an observation of your methodology. |

Joebxr, HaHa! No I am no longer part of the workforce. I wore many hats before retirement though, and if occasionally tending to my nieces and nephews qualifies me as a British Nanny, then guilty as charged. I am merely an observer who also likes to play devil's advocate on occasion to stimulate the discussions. I do find the rhetoric it bit much I must confess and would prefer well thought out arguments with the proper data to back them up, but I am just one old man. As to the way I express my thoughts here, it is merely one of several writing styles I utilize. I am quite familiar with the street vernacular as well, but prefer a more measured approach here. I am also fluent in German, but see no reason to use that language here either. As my name suggests I am fascinated with Norse mythology and have begun a study of the Old Norse language. If I were to express myself here in that long forgotten tongue I fear you would all think me quite mad and call the authorities to have me committed. I hope this answers your questions, and I do apologize for the lengthy reply. I look forward to further discussions with you. I must be off now for my noontime meditation. Ta ta. |

Guess 'reading between the lines' isn't one of your strong suits. "As far as a State Control Board, the 2% tax cap would prevent a 21% Troy-like increase. BUT, the City has been increasing 'fees' every year, so as far as the threat of a control board, we're not going to be suprised" The City taxpayers (which you may or not be one of) have seen increases to their property and school taxes, assessments and fees for the past decade. Even IF the State comes in, there will be a 2% cap (Troy's 21% increase was 11 years ago). THEREFORE...let me set this up for you clear enough...the taxpayers will have an increase in taxes whether or not the State takes over. It won't be worse if a control board comes in and why: the corruption in this town is so rampant, if it doesn't end, the City is doomed. We know how to tighten belts, now let the State give us some breathing room. |

"#Schenectady County says it doesn't know how much a proposed tax increase will be, but it's requesting to go over the 2.95 percent cap" - Lauren Stanforth TU
She also states that there will be no public hearing about this.
Even IF a State Control Board came in, at least we would know that our additional money wasn't going into someones pocket. It would be paying bills.
The City will follow suit and will bust over the cap as well....but they call them 'fees'. |

No, I prefer direct answers. I have found during my short stay here that the majority here do not share this opinion and in some cases avoid answers at any cost. |

The tax crap is just that. The County will violate it. The City Schools violated it. Pathetic McCheese who "understands the importance of high taxes" {actual quote from fearless leader} and actually voted to increase taxes more than the other DEM morons in 2009 look for a 15%+ City property tax increase. The State needs to come in NOW. Not wait 3 years for McCheese to implode the entire County. McCheese endorsed both Landry and A-Jello for Assembly. |

it is nice to have the 20 mil garage now they dont have to drain the hydraulic fluid at night and refill in the morning (as if they really do that)
You see, when they spin these tales, they know the reporters are stupid and they can get away with it. They know most of the public is stupid too and the ones who aren't are too busy trying to make the nut on their taxes, or have moved out of here a long time ago |
| "While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat." |

McCheese said this would save the City sheeple money because they could do body work over there- lol, DEM rubber stamps continue to implode resale values, small businesses and job creation. Got a State Control Board? |

WHAT????
The gazette accepted the lies verbatim the other day some liar at the city told. They know reporters are very dumb. THIS I will give them credit for. ...they spun a tall tales as to draining the hydraulics in the snow plow systems every night when they put them away b/c they had to be parked outdoors. Everyone knows that snowplows freeze at night because they are not designed for cold weather, but their true use is to push sand in the florida keys to make the beaches prettier. NO ONE uses hydraulic snowplows anywhere like Alaska or the Yukon, and only in NY state is it so cold that they need to dismantle and drain the hyd. fluid at night (and of course they never had heaters for the pumps or lines either) This is why my long term plan is to move as far away from Schenectady as possible at the first opportunity. Stupidity is a deep as any ocean here. |

Wonder why the big board cheerleader for the city and downtown is speechless about this?
|
| Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies. |

No one can defend these fiscal incompetents. The DEM morons can't even make minimum interest payments. The City bond rating will be hammered. $75,000 in total reserves and that is exaggerated. No business will come here without a truckload of cash. County to blast through the Cuomo tax crap. McCheese is thinking of a 15-20% increase in sick DEM property taxes. He still refuses to layoff ANYONE or cut ANYTHING. |
