2 Schenectady High School students held after fireworks set off on school bus

By Paul Nelson
Updated 5:08 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012

SCHENECTADY – Police have detained two teens for allegedly discharging fireworks shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday inside a school bus with fellow high school students inside, according to a city police spokesman.

Lt. Mark McCracken said no injuries were reported, but the pair likely wont face criminal charges.

The school district did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

So more school buses, busing kids all over the county, is a better idea.   It's the renaissance, no?

No charges?????   Fireworks could have caused a spark in the wrong place on the bus, the whole bus could have blown up killing everyone.   But since the spark didn't hit the gas tank or whatever, there's no harm done.

Fine Schdy PD that gives the message to kids, blow off fireworks on the bus, nothing wrong with that.  Fireworks are illegal, so why no charges?   Oh way, I guess that's McC's political cronies buddies in the DA's office?    Or his political cronies in the school district?

Oh, that's write, keep this story quiet, McC is having another bus tour of homes, courtesy of the taxpayers in the city.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Mikechristine1, the Daily Gazette reports that the two teens were indeed arrested, the charges are still to be determined.
It may be the Times Union report was filed before they had more details.

Two charged with lighting firecrackers on Schenectady school bus
Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Schenectady police officers and firefighters arrrive at Schenectady High School after a cherry bomb was detonated on this school bus in the school parking lot Tuesday.

SCHENECTADY — Two minors were arrested this afternoon after police said they lit firecrackers on a Schenectady school bus.

Lt. Mark McCracken said no one was injured in the incident, which happened just after 4 p.m. as the bus was picking up students at Schenectady High School.

“We don’t know the exact charges yet,” he said. “It all depends on the actors involved and how close they were to other students and the potential for injuries. But fireworks are illegal in the state of New York.”

School bus fires are more common than you think. Tons of upholstery and padding, plus plywood and expandable foam construction of the floors makes for very toxic fires. Scrap yards pay less per pound for school buses because they have a much higher percentage of non metal components.

Transfinder will be out of business without the Schenectady school bus system....shhhhhh.

Also, how else is the district going to get millions in federal and state funding for being persistently dangerous?

In light of school shootings and violence, this is an offense which should be taken a bit more seriously by the school and City. It's not a laughing matter at all!!

At the very least take away their bus priveledge for the remainder of the school year, restitution to the bus company
AND the fire department and have them do community service in a burn unit at a local hospital.
