a guy presented info on getting a grant from the state/feds for $300,000 for sidewalks around Zoller School and going down some road where there are houses. He said the city would have to come up with app. $200,000 which would be a problem for a smaller town or city with no resources Then someone brings up the homeowners there maintaining sidewalks and he says that SNAP could shovel them ??! Even though sidewalks are supposed to be maintained by homeowners there would be an exception. V Riggi spoke up and said he and other council would get calls on this from those of us who have to shovel ours. I'm all for the sidewalks IF the city had the money which it dosen't and IF the homeowners there had to shovel just like the rest of us do. |

Don't deliver the welfare checks to the homes of able bodied welfare recipients whose sidewalks are not shoveled. |

Cognitive dissonance must be your strong point. That makes no sense at any level. |

Last year was it, a "curb fee" proposed, but tossed.
This year McC might propose a sidewalk fee so that the city can fix SOME sidewalks, but then MOST current owners will still be responsible for the sidewalks in front of their own houses. And of course, when McC & Co REFUSE to remove trees (that are otherwise healthy) which are pushing up sidewalks, the homeowner will be ordered to replace the sidewalk at their own expense but not to disturb the tree roots. And then when the sidewalk is falling apart a year later from the tree roots, the greedy city again will order a sidewalk replacement. Oh yeah, a very expensive sidewalk replacement permit fee, in addition to the annual sidewalk fee. And of course, we can all imagine McC coming out with a "sidewalks must be replaced with city approved contractors," i.e., McC political cronies.
I'll bet there's an increase in the trash fee in the 2013 budget |

If they increase the sewer water and garbage fees then there will be a big problem. They have bloated those departments with cash. An audit would clearly show the illegal shifting of employees into the water sewer and sanitation department. Almost time to FOIL the city general ledger detail for the last 5 years. Would cost a fortune but will make this shell game transparent. Enough is enough. |

from bizjournals.com... http://www.bizjournals.com/albany/news/2012/09/13/metroplex-funds-schenectady.html"The Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority has approved streetlight, sidewalk and other lighting projects in downtown Schenectady, New York, totaling around $135,000.
Metroplex said $19,500 has been budgeted for a new sidewalk on the east side of North Broadway, completing a project to connect the Proctors Block to lower Union Street via North Broadway.Metroplex will also spend $61,150 to replace nine streetlights on North Broadway. Funding has been approved for new curb cuts and handicap-accessible ramps along State Street in front of Proctors. Handicap accessibility improvements will also be made on Broadway, at the crosswalk where the Metroplex garage meets Stratton Plaza. The total cost for those improvements will be $10,000." Guess I'm just wondering how kids at Zoller feel when Proctors gets new sidewalks and lighting and these kids walk through curb side gravel and mud...especially on rainy days like today. I'm sure Proctors doesn't shovel either - we taxpayers pay for that. |

Hell no - they've got heated sidewalks and cleanup by the BID. Doesn't everyone in the city? |
