Really, a "Wings Night" with free popcorn for students is a win for the taxpayers? An art night where no one knows the dates for, is helping downtown?

The only way Downtown will ever be beneficial for the triple-taxed property owners like myself is if businesses like Bombers, Villia Italia, Paul Mitchell, Aperitivo, Clinton Ditch and the many others who have received millions in tax-exemptions and no-interest Metroplex loans get back on the tax rolls.

There are millions of dollars in lost property and school tax money in Downtown. Metroplex has devaluated all this property by tax exemptions which leave a gaping hole in the tax base.

Let's stop lying to ourselves that Downtown is helping the City, because in reality is is sucking the taxpayers dry and forcing hundreds in this City into foreclosure.

Rachel72, you lack the reading comprehension skills to carry on a reasonable discussion. You respond in a hysterical manner. I see no need to continue this exercise in futility any longer. Good day.

"Visitor Agency Spokesman " City Councilwoman Leesa Perrazo! The same idiot that voted to rape the City taxpayers by flat lining sales tax revenue while the County receipts are up 3X.
She should organize a tour of the assessor office and 700 home foreclosed by DEM morons. Good luck with your Mayor race next time! ROTFLMAO!

She couldn't organize herself out of a paper bag without the other DEMS pulling her on a leash.

Does she get paid for being the spokesman?

Having read the article this morning I will share my thoughts.

I think that the idea in theory is a good one. However, that being said, it is once again a bit of "lipstick on a pig." If we are to lure people downtown, then there must be a reason to come. Many years ago downtown had such an event. It occurred weekly. On Thursday evenings, and it was successful. It brought together residents in a vibrant setting where they could stroll, meet and chat with their neighbors, perhaps take in a movie or grab a bite to eat. But the real draw of the Thursday evening strolls in Downtown, were the many retail outlets. That my friends is what is needed today. Retail, retail, retail. Not a phony attempt to create a buzz. Why in the name of God is it necessary to charge $5 to have the privilege of sampling wings? Absurd!

But the truth is, no retail, NO RETAIL, wants to move INTO the city.   Just like NO FAMILIES want to move into the city.   Sure, a SMALL HANDFUL of single unmarried people have bought houses, but then, that's because of the taxpayer handouts to do so.  Yet the biggest cheerleader for the dems and their wild and uncontrolled spending on downtown, a person who is a single person, never married (never will be) and no children, even he doesn't want to move into the city, not even with handouts from the taxpayer, that is obviously EVIDENCE that he knows the city is very very bad.   Oh wait, a calendar might indicate someone is an adult, but.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

And therein lies the rub, for until retail returns and those in power begin to return properties to the tax rolls the city is doomed. The leadership and partisan politics have created this. An apathetic and complacent populace has contributed as well. And I will add those who complain constantly, seemingly just to complain, to the stinking stew which is our city at the present time.

New leadership would be at the top of my list as a beginning to find a solution to the sorry mess we have created. I remain optimistic, but fear I will not live long enough to see a return to a vibrant city.

Guess you do agree with something I said.

By the way, the sheep who do nothing but cheerlead are pathetic. People who don't live in the City and point fingers at those who pay more than their fair share of taxes as 'whiners' are pathetic.

If you live in this City Loki and pay taxes, then you know what I'm saying. If not, you can't even begin to know what it's like to own property in a City which had $100 million poured into it only to be left with devalued property which cannot be sold, a school system which I wouldn't want my worst enemy to be part of and a bunch of Plex players who keep ripping off the taxpayers.

Art night and wing night won't fix this, throwing out everyone knee deep in this corruption will.

Patches, I am independent both in my thinking and political persuasion.

As to your choice of name, I am led to believe it refers to your patchwork method of writing on this site. Your fragmented, cryptic style leaves me with a headache, as I am unable to decipher any of it. If you wish to be taken seriously, you should attempt to write in a more conventional manner. Just a suggestion.

can't have a pyramid scheme without a part of the pyramid.....it's like going to a store, they ask if you would like to purchase a discount card for $25 to save 10%.....REALLY!!!? DO I HAVE DUMB A$$ WRITTEN ON MY HEAD? GET THE 'F' OUT
OF HERE....

take the taxes then offer a cutsie event and charge $5 to wander around ....REALLY!!!!? AGAIN....WTF IS WRONG WITH
THAT PICTURE????

IT SHOULD BE CALLED THE PONZI STROLL.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

SCHENECTADY
Initial stroll: Few people, big promise

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

The unpronounceable new event downtown fizzled Friday, with few people strolling the city streets and no one joining the dance party on Jay Street.
But those who came said they believed Passeggiata would take off in time.
“I think it’s a good idea, and I like it,” said city Councilwoman Marion Porterfi eld, who was surprised to find there was plenty of parking and few strollers in sight when she arrived.
Organizers planned the event as an after-dinner stroll, modeled on (and named after) the traditional evening stroll in Italy. The goal was to get residents to mingle and wander through the ever-expanding downtown.
Themed events will be offered on the third Friday of every month, with the next theme being an international night. For the first event, Friday’s theme was to welcome college students.
But most businesses didn’t plan themed activities to draw in strollers, offering only discounts and the occasional arts performance.
Leesa Perazzo, a Proctors spokeswoman, said she believed the event would do better as people come to expect it every month.
“It’s the first month out of the box,” she said. “Considering we turned on a dime to plan it, I was very pleased.”
The only event that drew interest was the Wing Walk, a $5 event hosted by 11 restaurants competing for the title of best wing-maker. College students and some adults showed up in small groups to tastetest wings.
At Nico’s Pizza, the chef seemed to be enjoying the event more than the customers.
“Try the Jack Daniels,” head chef Colton Cappiello urged Wing Walkers, pointing to a marinated wing. “I personally made the sauce myself, blended it overnight, and grilled it.”
He also offered garlic wings, but when a customer picked that wing, he shook his head.
“Bad choice,” he said. “You should’ve picked the Jack Daniels.”
BRING ’EM IN
For the competition, each restaurant could offer just one wing per customer, so his customers had to choose. But for Cappiello, the point wasn’t winning the competition. It was getting new customers in the door.
He didn’t mind that only 95 people had participated in the contest in its first two hours.
“I love it. It’s great advertising,” he said. “It gets the kids out. Not only am I seeing college kids, I’m also seeing the community.”
Many of those customers hadn’t been in Nico’s for years. They were pleasantly surprised to see the business is no longer in a crumbling building.
“We had it redone four years ago,” Cappiello said proudly when Geri Grace said she hadn’t expected such a beautiful pizza parlor.
Grace took Cappiello’s advice and tried the Jack Daniels wing.
“It’s really good,” she said, before adding that she tried to convince her friends to come out for the stroll. All of them claimed other plans.
“It’s Friday night. I’m not staying at home by myself,” she declared. “I’m going to do something different because life is too short.”
Michele Blakely brought her entire extended family for the stroll “to support Schenectady. More things should keep the community going and strong.”
There wasn’t much evidence of community, but college students enjoyed the event. .........................>>>>........................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01303&AppName=1

Another total flop by the City DEM morons. Not one Union student showed up for the "dance". The stroll was a total bust like everything these DEM morons do. A total waste of time and taxpayer money. Leesa is a total
joke/McCheese stooge that every Downtown merchants is laughing at. She actually voted to screw every City
property owner after "thinking about it". Real Mayoral material- ROTFLMAO!! Fat Morris for some unknown
reason keeps her on the Proctor's dole.

Only two complete DEM idiots Marion Porterhouse and Leeser Perrazo would think this was a successful event. NO ONE showed up. Thank God we can dump Marion Porterhouse in November. Too bad Leesa is not on the ballot.
Even the cheer leading Gazetto said this was a total flop.

You lack the ability to see the truth of Rachel's words.

Downtown serves no purpose except to flood the wealth to the wealthy.

Metroplex is causing the death of the city.

They answer to themselves.

They think subsidizing the corporate elite will trickle down.

Trickle down economics does not work.

If we had all the money that metroplex gave to corporate welfare clients, we could have state of the art schools and a city full of mom and pop businesses.

Bravo! Metrograft is hastening the total demise. Downtown businesses pay nothing so you can pay more.
Dissolve Metrograft madness. Allow the City to keep the sales tax revenues that is going to Death Ray. As the towns do. Put 2 and 2 together. Metrograft tax giveaways + City Hall fiscal incompetence = State Control Board Takeover and/or City Bankruptcy.

Even Free Wings did not lure ONE Union College Student Downtown. And DEM idiots Marion Porterhouse and
Perrazo think this is a positive development? Another new low for the DEM morons who have destroyed Schenectady. There are no more carcasses to pick over.
