So sad that the people in the city are easily fooled. All they see in passing through downtown is the brick and they think the city is improving. It's obvious they don't stop there because they would see that there is no retail, most of the finished buildings are empty, no apartments rented, NOTHING. They don't read between the lines to comprehend that the money given to downtown is the taxpayers money. The city of course won't announce the reduction in the tax base and obviously the news reporters locally don't bother to check the facts. And people don't realize that their property taxes (or their rent) is high because it is paying for the taxes of the lawbreaker Morris and all the other millionaires downtown.
And since it's budget time, and since McC now knows that Cuthbert is willing to present real numbers to the people, McC had to get rid of him and even deny him access to his office and desk.
And McC and his cronies have even prevented Councilman Riggi from being privy to things, and ALL councilpeople MUST have EQUAL access to the same info.
Most (not all) of the hill people have no clue about city issues, they rightfully complain about crime, but have no clue why there can't be a cop on every corner, and they think Porterfield is magically going to change everything, yeah, like Joe Allen failed in his, what, 20 years, he couldn't even accomplish getting trash cans stored properly. In many neighborhoods, the people don't connect the downtown tax exemptions mean high rents, they don't even know what the word infrastructure means, then there's that one woman who speaks almost all the time, "we got a big problem in the city, the sidewalks have cracks in them, someone's gonna get hurt, we gotta take care of this." Then there are the smarter people who are too busy working their tails off for extra income, cutting coupons to save money, scheduling car pools for kids events, and trying to educate their kids at home in the evening during homework time because the kids sure are not learning anything in the school, and these people have no time to march on city hall.
So, I'm just glad I don't live in the city. But true, I need to be watchful because what is in the city is spreading into the towns
But it's people like us on these boards that know the facts and have the evidence, we need to get the word out and tell people and tell people to tell others, etc. And of course to tell people to ignore a certain cheerleader for the city from Rotterdam
