talk about overly simplistic

This is pure incompetence.   If it is true that they don't know what percentage comes from the city then legislate a law to facilitate transparency.  McCarthy wants to work for the County again so he remains a Biatch.

And you can provide some facts to support your statement that the renaissance is in full swing?

You can provide some facts about the tax base
You can provide some facts about home values
You can provide some facts about tax bills
You can provide some facts about the crime rate
You can provide some facts about the length of time it takes to sell a house which would be reflective of the desirability to buy a home IN the city
You can provide some facts about how desirable it is for retail to open
You can provide some facts about the numbers of houses that actually sell
You can provide some facts about the sale price in relation to the asking price
You can provide some facts about the graduation rate of the education that parents don't have any choice in

Well DV?    What facts have you got?

Yep, it's in full swing, as evidenced by the county voting to override the tax cap, most likely to be followed by the city.

It is so blatantly obvious why there are no sales tax revenue numbers from the city verifiable.   1)The low income from the tax would force(?) the county to give the city more as the true numbers,if they were low, would not lie.   The numbers never do.   So in this case too much information would be a detrimate.   But being we live in a super age of tech./computers/tech. chips it's hard to believe one could not accumulate/disect this info.-if you REALLY wanted to.   So it would seem in this case, less is more.   2)And if the numbers truly came in low this would in part not reflect to well on the PLEX involvement in downtown.   It would force the PLEX/LEG. into an almost indefensible position to justify all that $$$$$ invested there.

On the Cuthbert firing front.   You'd think the Finance Dept. would be more under the gun over the City garage on Foster Ave. and the payment plan that exists where only the interest has only been paid these last 5 years.   Now the principal pyts. kick in.   And also the Finance Dept. signing off on a contract that allows Tower Capital to collect part of the back taxes from homes, revenue THAT THE CITY COLLECTS on it's own through no help from Tower, but nonetheless partakes in the amount collected.   This will exist until JAN.2013 when the contract expires.   You'd think more inhouse attention/concern would be forthcoming on these 2 points, rather than eliminating someone who was trying to help the city.

Emperor McCarthy could use some new clothing

Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy’s firing of budget analyst Jason Cuthbert, for pointing out the obvious flaws in the city/county sales tax agreement, reminds me of the story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Denying the existence of the problem doesn’t make it go away, sir. Nor does fi ring someone for telling you the truth. Maybe Mr. Cuthbert would like to run for mayor, although I highly doubt it. He appears to possess a little too much integrity for the job.

City/county reps sold out Schenectady on sales tax

Re Oct. 2 article, “County’s proposed budget includes tax hike of 7.49%”: First, I would like to ask, has Mr. [county legislative Majority Leader Gary] Hughes just recently moved here from another country? The city has raised taxes every year I have lived here. Please don’t try to snowball the taxpayers. We know exactly what is going on — and you as representatives of the city/county should be ashamed, and that includes the County Attorney Chris Gardner.
Financial analyst Jason Cuthbert lost his job because he came out and exposed what is going on with the sales taxes — how Mr. Gardner and Mayor Gary McCarthy made a deal, how the county keeps most of it rather than increasing the amount that goes to the city. Gardner and Mr. McCarthy should be held accountable for what they did to the fi nancial analyst (whistleblower, anyone?).
You want the taxpayers (again) to pay for your mistakes and all you are doing is forcing more and more residents out of the city.
Mayor McCarthy keeps complaining that people don’t pay their back taxes or penalties. Really? Then hire an outside company that knows what it’s doing.

These letter writers need to start including Marion Porterfield's name in the letters, AND clarify that as a co-conspirator in this mess that voters are reminded that she is running in November and there is an alternative.

I hate to say this, buy there does seem to be a high population of people of the same ancestry that will vote for her regardless of how high taxes are, and many of this group are not worried about increased in rent because they are probably Sect 8.   And even those not the same, if they are in the "gimme" group, the "entitlement" group, they will vote for her, clearly, these people don't even know that their landlords pay property taxes, clearly. they don't know what the word "infrastructure" means.   Actually, they are most likely beneficiaries of the non-profits, and the non-profits as you know, are looking for that county money to fund their salaries.

Certain neighborhoods have been left on their own....what do you expect....there is no education to allow these neighborhoods to make the right choice...they

don't know any better......please, educate and pay attention to the neighborhoods that have been left by the wayside...

a separation of classes it seems.......
