It is unusual but not unprecedented to have police officers stand by at the request of an employer when they think the termination of an employee will
cause problems,(e.g., typically becoming verbally/phyisically disruptive or refusing the leave the workplace.)

If the employer asks - the officers will be sent.  

I know Jason - I seriously doubt he would have caused a problem, so, while possibly just precautionary I seriously doubt it was necessary for the police to be there.

And, I am confident the officers would have preferred to not be sent there or involved in this matter in any manner.  

Although I believe that this was an injustice to Jason.....I too have to agree with VISITOR. It is not uncommon to have police escort an employee or  supervise a 'termination'. Many companies have their own security depts that also 'escort & supervise'.

HOWEVER.............I also believe that this was very very heavy handed and over the top on the part of the elected officials in this case. To those that are paying attention......calling in the cops is just proof that the 'elected officials' knew this was an injustice!!

You are correct bumblethru, it is standard operating procedure in such cases to have the company security present. In this case the company security is the Schenectady Police Department.
