I'm assuming that a lot of forum members live outside the city. I'm pretty sure this isn't good news for the other Schenectady County towns. If the city wants and gets a larger percentage of sales tax revenue from the county - how are the townships going to make up for the loss of revenue? Hold on to your wallets! |

Vincent Riggi, the lone non-Democrat on City Council, has already stated he won't be voting for the sales tax agreement Monday night. With City Councilwoman Barbara Blanchard out for medical reasons, McCarthy would need four out of six votes to pass the measure. "Who's (the mayor) working for here?" Riggi said. "It really shows you the political end takes precedent." Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....02.php#ixzz265HTpTfC

I must say, that as a new member here I am a bit perplexed. Who is the DV that is being referenced in your and many others posts? Why all the vitriol towards this person? Should I avoid interaction with this person? It's confusing to me.
Its a troll with multiple accounts here and posts under different names, someone here could probably list all the names this person goes by, I counted 5 since I been here. Best part is sometimes this troll will respond to his other names trying to fool us by making it look as if it is a different person, its funny and sad at the same time. |

Question for county residents that live outside the city. Why are you happy that the city wants to get a larger percentage of sales tax revenue? That money would have to come from somewhere, and it would mean a reduced share of sales tax revunue for the towns. |

How was the sales tax revenue distributed before Metroplex? Did each municipality receive the tax generated from within? Was there another entity before Metroplex that distributed the money? |

The City is already pulling the entire County down. The current sales tax revenue split is hardly equitable. The City should take it's 1.5% as Mr Cuthbert recommends. Maybe than the gin mills and Proctor's can finally help pull some of the load. The problem is the new County Home which adds millions in costs to already raped County taxpayers. Proctor's must be put on a pay as you go basis and off the public teat. |

I thought I was the only one asking questions. These other folks seem to have been here for a long time and posting regularly, it's hard for this old man to keep up. Maybe it's beer-thirty. Join me - bring a pizza! |

Rusty, I only asked the question because of Cicero's post. Was there a more equitable distribution of sales tax money before Metroplex? If there was then shouldn't that be the model now. I am only one person, but from my chair it appears Metroplex has failed. Once again I find myself thinking "Lipstick on a pig" in terms of any real progress being made. In the meantime the tax paying citizenry continues to suffer. Cicero raises a good point as to the redistribution of sales tax monies should the City receive a larger share (although this entire argument is moot when we all know Marion Porterhouse will be the swing vote tonight). So I have to go back to my point of how was it done before? Anybody? Re: The older posters. I agree, it also seems to me that this site at times becomes a bit of a soap opera what with all the pet names, veiled references and innuendo. Amusing and confusing at the same time. |
