The barrier fence is rather unattractive looking considering that this area is one of the gateways to the city. The other thing that doesn't make sense is that its western/southwestern end doesn't really go far enough to actually prevent/discourage someone from crossing Washington Avenue by traveling west/southwest on the sidewalk and then crossing at the end the fence. |

Plus. it isn't the Gateway into the city, it is the Gateway out of the city. People coming down the ramp are heading over the escape from Schenectady Bridge(formerly known as the Western Gateway Bridge) |

Actually, the fence is quite visible if you are ENTERING the city via the Western Gateway Bridge. And there are MANY vehicles ENTERING the city at that point. |

There was no need for this taxpayer funded fence because there was no need for the taxpayers to pay for such lavish dorms, or any dorms for community college kids. The kids should be living at home, or if they don't want to live at home, they should be working part time and paying rent in a normal apartment. Instead, the cost of dorms added on to the tuition means more taxpayer money being paid for all the taxpayer funded grants for college expenses.

The property has now become tax exempt. Just another Schenectady takeaway from the taxpayers. |

Obama and every major insurance company disagrees with you ... they're still children and covered under their mommies or daddies health insurance program. |

Semantics... Your kids will always be your "children", even as they progress into adults. |

Yep, the tax base in the city has gone down again. |

I just love hearing about these 'gateways' into schenectady! Does anyone REALLY think that folks are that dumb to think that Schenectady is worth ANYTHING if their 'gateways' are attractive??? I mean come on!!! Once one passes thru one of these so called 'gateways' and travels a couple of block, they will clearly see the crumbling infrastructure, the drug dealers, panhandlers, the jaywalkers, folks pissing on the sidewalks, the vacant buildings, the graffiti, the unplowed roads in the winter...just to name a few beauties!! LOL Couple that with a sub-standard school system, a city on the brink of bankruptcy, the over the top taxes and a failed METROPLEX/GILLEN......just to name a few. Yup....beautify those gateways so folks can at least look at something pleasant when they walk away from their homes with their packed vehicles. |

I will say this. I have been to Kingston NY a few times recently and it makes you wish you were back in good old Schenectady. Broadway is not safe after dark, hookers drug dealers, gangs, homeless people sleeping openly all along the main road, etc. Kingston used to be the original Capital of New York State. Now it ranks right up there with Schenectady as one of the crime capitals of the state. Coincidentally, they also have a historic stockade district and their version of Proctors, known as the Broaday theater. |
