so who is going to pay for the buses for the city kids???? And don't fool yourselves.....the larger the district....the more supervisors....1st assistant supervisor....2nd assistant supervisor.......more principals.......1st assistant princ.......2nd assistant prince.......and on and on and on! Not to mention a larger union base to swing votes!!!!!

They already did that with Draper/Mohonasen.....how is that working out? Tried it with Linton and Mt. Pleasant....how is that working out?

Look at shen.......the school is so freaking big (it's like a college campus) that most kids who want to try out for sports, out number the positions. The kids get lost in the largeness of the campus!! We know kids who go to the school and even they say it'sTOO BIG!!!

Be careful what ya wish for. It would become a money pit!!

Linton and Mont Pleasant were NOT separate school districts -- they were separate high schools within the SAME school district.

Having one school district per county does NOT mean that there would be just one high school, one middle school, etc.

Consolidation is coming .. it is time to start thinking like people living in the 21st century and stop insisting on thinking like it was still the early 1800's.

If Schenectady County had ONE school district, then ALL of the school districts would be combined.  It is a model that has worked in other states and produced lower property taxes and better school systems.  I believe that consolidation is long overdue in New York.

Produce proof of lower taxes cause by consolidation.

Produce your models.

I guess you would have to define what "worked" means.  If that means churning out the same failure rate at a cheaper cost per taxpayer, you could very well win that argument.

I'm fine with cheaper cost to the taxpayer.

I just don't believe taxes will ever be lowered.

The bigger the districts become the more expensive they are to run.

There are many states that have fewer school districts (many that have the county-wide school district system) and they are spending LESS on public education than New York State is currently paying and in most cases getting better results.

The difference?  UNIONS and increased labor costs due to them.  New York should become a Right To Work state, where not everybody has to be in a union and pay dues to that palace they built up on Troy-Schenectady Road.

Produce proof of lower taxes cause by consolidation.

Produce your models.

Stop making stuff up.

Produce the facts.

I want to see actual reduced spending causing lower taxes.

Failure to produce the facts would suggest this is another get rich quick scam for some friends and families.

The facts are out there for any reasonably intelligent person to find for him or her self.  I did my own research -- do your own.

So you are stating that your claims are not supported by facts.

You expect those challenging your facts to produce evidence for you?

The heading for this thread is very misleading -- the actual tax rate is $15.89 per $1,000 of assessed value NOT $53 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Now that I have set that straight -- once again I call on New York State to help cut unnecessary spending by consolidating the over 500 school districts in the state to 62 school districts (1 per county).  This would eliminate the many redundant, high-priced district level officials and allow for better use of existing school buildings thus avoiding the need for one district to spend millions of dollars building new buildings/classroom space while a neighboring school district moth-balls school buildings.

soon.....NO BUILDINGS NEEDED....teachers on line....BUT....where will the indoctrination come in?????

those moth-ball teachers and buildings won't be there....

but detentions for FB posts will be......

DV NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER provides proof.   He makes statements that he has done research, he could provide links to the websites, but he doesn't because there is nothing like that.

He STILL after, what, two years STILL HAS NOT provided those alleged FBI statistics saying crime in Schenectady is going down.

He STILL after one year or more has NOT provided one teeny weeny shred of proof that county taxes are the lowest in 50 years.   IF he makes that claim he must have numbers,, but he has not numbers because the FACT is the county taxes are NOT lowest in 50 years, nor the county tax rate the lowest.   Soooooo, DV, how is it you claim they are the lowest??????    Why do you REFUSE to provide proof?????    Huh??????    Why no proof, DV????????

Big chicken, won't answer, no proof.   Cluck cluck cluck

The FACT is that there are quite a few states with county-wide school districts and the cost of public education is LOWER in those states.

Furthermore, it is simple mathematics  --- it is a lot less expensive to have 1 district superintendent than it is to have 7, 1 business manager instead of 7, etc. etc.

Finally, it is interesting that the folks who claim to be for "less government" are so opposed to an actual proposal that would provide less government.   Which leads me to conclude that the lot of you nayboobs are just plain full of crap, whiners.

Centralizing the control of government schools into fewer hands by expanding districts is not "small government".  It is the exact opposite.  Why is that so hard to understand?

Pizza may be cheaper in Rotterdam if you just had one super pizza shop the size of a super Walmart to provide pizza for the 25k residents.  If you don't like variety and choice but like the marginal economic savings, this is a great solution.
