Cop car perk ends
Schenectady mayor's order affects take-home vehicles for police brass

SCHENECTADY — After months of debate, Mayor Gary McCarthy has alerted his six top police leaders that they will not be allowed to take home their police vehicles starting next month.

He said Friday that he has asked Police Chief Mark Chaires to come up with a plan for a "pool car system" with at least one vehicle available to Chaires, the public safety commissioner and the four assistant chiefs.

Chaires said Friday he asked Assistant Chief Michael Seber earlier this week to email McCarthy to determine how many cars will be part of the pool system.

"First of all, we were told we would have use of the cars, but couldn't take them home, then it changed to a pool system," he said. "It's (McCarthy's) discretion to take the vehicles and it's over."

Chaires and Seber are among the non-unionized police officers now allowed to take the cars home, but city leaders have complained that all of them live outside the city. The others are Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett and assistant chiefs Brian Kilcullen, Jack Falvo and Patrick Leguire..................>>>>...............>>>>.................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Cop-car-perk-ends-3780098.php#ixzz23ExaQKfj

"McCarthy said he was unsure of how many employees have take-home vehicles."

It might be something you need to research McCheesy. 6 vehicles is a start, but how many are we really talking about City-wide?

that means everyone can....but only if your union gets that for you.....

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Bottom line - it was a nice perk but these are difficult times.  Seems curious that they cannot tell how much will be saved and why it only impacted the PD.

Don't worry Union members- McCheesy wouldn't DARE make you give up your free ride. You already paid him off with your votes and campaign donations.

The ability for union members to take their cars home is not something that McCarthy could do unilaterally (not that he would). That is related to contractual and public sector labor law.

And aren't those labor contracts approved/negotiated by the City Council?

Face it, McCheesy is in bed with the Unions and doesn't have the cahones to negotiate taking ANYTHING away from their iron-clad contract.

Sure they are.  That was not my point - my point was that you cannot just take them away as they did with Command Staff who are non-union

I made no reference to the Mayor's relationship to the unions or conservative party

You mean the distance measured between the Hamilton's (the felon's brother) asscheeks and Mayor Darth Vader's nose?
