Political commentators have expressed their fury over the fact that Michelle Obama wore a jacket worth $6,800 to the pre-Olympics Opening Ceremony reception at Buckingham Palace on Friday. Though the dazzling J Mendel jacket and skirt won critical acclaim from the style set, some pundits are furious that she elected to spend so much money on a garment while so many in the U.S. are suffering financially. Back in May, Ann Romney, wife of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, wore a $990 Reed Krakoff silk shirt for a media appearance. The item of clothing set off a media firestorm, with the Romneys widely accused of being “out of touch” with average Americans. In particular, the Washington Post wrote that the $990 blouse “will not help her husband change those perceptions, no matter how many Laundromat photo ops are on the campaign’s itinerary.” Fast forward to last Friday, when First Lady Michelle Obama attended an Olympics reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace, donning a J. IMO, this entire entire thread is irrelevant.

This thread could be repeated with every first lady... the same words, just different names. And This thread did include Ann Romney... See reply #4.

Oh...The thread was mis-titled then.
And, I guess it is fine for the first ladies to flaunt wealth, since they are representatives of the state. But a private business person? NO WAY, THAT IS JUST DOWN RIGHT GREED!!!
You can read stories like this about every administration. Their first lady is portrayed as out of touch, elitists, or some how not like 'regular' Americans. Either she spends too much on a dress... or she dressed like a tramp, or she dressed for a formal occasion as if she were going to the beach. It's all meaningless and cheap shots, meant for those who thrive on gossip.
It belongs right up there with stories on Paris Hilton & The Kardashians.

The lame stream media is just in the game of 'nit picking'!
However..........this elaborate government system needs to collapse and be rebuilt. Our president resides in america....not in England where there is a QUEEN and PRINCE who reside in a castle. The american president was not suppose to be placed on a pedestal. Remember...the master is no greater than it's servants............yes? And yes...........they have ALL lived the same way in the white house..........and americans should be appaulled!
