Road rally coming to Schenectady City hopes to get positive exposure as stop on leg of Universal Studios production By Paul Grondahl Published 10:54 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012
SCHENECTADY — The Fireball Run, a hybrid road rally that borrows from the ''Cannonball Run'' movie and reality TV show ''The Amazing Race,'' is coming to the Electric City on Sept. 26 as part of a 15-city, 2,500-mile Ohio-to-Maine extravaganza.
The 40 cars will include pricey exotics such as a Lamborghini Aventador, Devon GTX and Fisker Karma; a DeLorean used in the Back to the Future II movie and a Crystal Springs Water delivery truck driven by the company's CEO.
City Councilman Carl Erikson is signed up for the race with Richard Ruzzo, of Schenectady, who owns Shepherd Communications & Security.
"I remember watching 'Cannonball Run' when I was a kid and thinking it was so cool," said Erikson, 40, a sourcing manager at GE. "We won't get as crazy as that movie, but it will be a lot of fun."
Thought that this was an article announcing that DVOR was running to Schenectady to buy a house!
