Every time gun control becomes a topic of public conversation, Les McDermott seems to see a spike in sales at the Veterans Gun Depot in Troy. Such was the case following a mass shooting in a Colorado theater last month, which left 12 dead and touched off a national discussion about laws regulating guns. McDermott estimates he’s seen an uptick in sales of roughly 15 percent in the immediate aftermath — a pattern that closely mimics what he saw after the January 2011 shooting that killed six in Tuscon, Ariz. “Anytime there’s an incident like that, there’s a spike,” he said Tuesday. “It’s defi nitely noticeable.” And the spike is across the board for just about any gun-related product at McDermott’s store, whether it’s guns or ammunition. The overriding factor for most of his customers seems to be a sense of uncertainty over whether they’ll be able to continue buying such products unfettered by stricter state or federal gun legislation. “Everybody is concerned about more gun legislation,” he said. New York’s delegation to the U.S. Senate did propose an amendment to the Cybersecurity Act that would restrict the purchase of high-capacity gun magazines, such as the one used in the shooting in Colorado. U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., the amendment’s sponsor, said the legislation offers reasonable measures to control guns and that its proponents should make clear that it’s intended to save lives, not curtail Second Amendment freedoms. “I think it would be very important for those of us who are for gun control — some rational laws on guns — to make it clear once and for all that’s not our goal,” he said from the Senate floor last week, “to make it clear that the belief is that the Second Amendment does matter, that there is a right to bear arms ... and if you’re an average normal American citizen, you have the right to bear arms.” On Monday, U.S. Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-N.J., and U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-Long Island, announced legislation that would prohibit purchasing unlimited quantities of ammunition through the Internet or by mail order and require that dealers report any bulk sales of ammunition to law enforcement agencies. The proposed law was spurred by reports that the Colorado shooter purchased thousands of rounds of ammunition online in the months leading up to the massacre. “It’s one thing to buy a pair of shoes online, but it should take more than a click of the mouse to amass thousands of rounds of ammunition,” Lautenberg said. Both pieces of legislation have drawn swift rebuke from conservative think tanks and Second Amendment advocates. Some argue that such legislation will lead to an erosion of Second Amendment rights. Of course, New York is already among the states with the strictest gun laws. These include strenuous background checks for anyone receiving a pistol permit and an outright ban on large capacity ammunition feeding devices that can load more than 10 rounds of ammunition into a gun at one time. Other gun store owners say the recent discussion over gun control hasn’t changed much in the way of sales. A teenager has been arrested after killing eight people and wounding five others in a knife attack in northeast China, state media reported Thursday.
The 17-year-old, which was identified only by his surname Li, barged into the home of his girlfriend armed with a knife following an argument and killed two relatives of the girl, the Legal Daily said.
As he left his girlfriend's home in Liaoning province's Xinbin county, he stabbed six more people to death and wounded five, it said.
He was arrested at the scene of the attack, late on Wednesday night, and was taken into custody, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
No other details were immediately available. Calls made to local authorities and police in Xinbin county went unanswered.
Violent crime has been on the rise in China in recent decades as the nation's economy has boomed and the gap between rich and poor has expanded at an alarming rate.
Experts say the increase in assaults shows that China is paying the price for focusing on more than 30 years of economic growth while ignoring problems linked to rapid social change.
Studies have described a rise in the prevalence of mental disorders in China, some of them linked to stress as the pace of life becomes faster and socialist support systems wither.
However, authorities stress that murder, which carries the death penalty, remains far less common than in most Western countries.

I just pointed out that because of strict gun laws in China, the killer was limited to a much smaller number killed than if he were a gun totin' American. Gun laws in this case, might have kept the death toll to a much smaller number.

The only thing promoting the drug war is the drug war itself, it is the prohibition laws which created the foundation for these cartels to build on and the Mexican government is also cashing in on it. When California had the vote to legalize medical marijuana guess who was strongly opposed to it, the Mexican president. Now why would the Mexican president be against a bill that would allow pot users in America to be able to grow their own plants and buy from American growers, which in turn would take money from the cartels they say they're fighting against
