The city dems have made NO CUTS yet since learning that.
Notice the excerpt from a news story posted a few months ago. Notice that the city had to refund $80,000 JUST TO ONE property owner that challenged their assessment, when it had budgeted ONLY $75,000 to cover ALL challenges! There hasn't been any story listing how much they had to refund to ALL those who challenged their assessments, but just look at minutes of city council meetings how they are voting almost every meeting to settle (rather than face lawsuits) on the certorari suits, a few resollutions every meeting.
This excerpt references challenges from those who appeared before the Assessment Board in 2011 and perhaps even some previous years depending on negotiating that may have taken place.

The City Council is poised to overspend its budget line for tax challenges Monday, as more and more residents prove that their properties are over-assessed. Mayor Gary McCarthy said the problem may force the city to make “internal cuts” to pay back the taxes of over-assessed owners. On Monday, the council plans to give more than $80,000 back to the owners of a medical building at 650 McClellan St. The city had budgeted to spend only $75,000 on all tax refunds this year.
Now remember, the DEM PUPPETS on the Assessment Board, what did they do this year? Despite PROOF POSITIVE via certorari lawsuits that property values are plummeting in the city, the Board DENIED ALL GRIEVANCES claiming "insufficient data"
So now, this month, property owners are beginning the processes through the courts to get their assessments reduced from this year's grievances.
So what is this dem mayor doing about last year's $5 MIL hole?
So what is this dem mayor doing about this year's budget which no one knows the status of this year?
So how is he going to pay all the refunds from previous years certorari lawsuits, referenced above?
How much will he propose in the budget for this year's lawsuits after his puppets denied all grievances?
What has been reported to the financially struggling homeowners in the city????
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Yup. Keep spending the taxpayers' money on more renovations and new buildings downtown, then exempt them from paying property & school taxes.
Is THAT how to "grow the tax base" ????? New buildings that are tax exempt.
Talk about a stupid suggestion (but it comes from someone who claims to be a property taxpayer but has proven he is not because anyone who pays taxes has the intelligence to know that you do NOT grow a tax base by handing out tax exemptions--which is EXACTLY WHAT THE DEMS IN SCHENECTADY have been doing since day 1 of the BS mayor and now this one)

At least DVR doesn't support total failure Obama. The City is a total joke. The DEMS lie about enforcing residency laws, lie about cutting the car fleet and recently added another $500,000 in spending for unneeded pet projects. Like the girl that can't say no. Barbara and Vince are trying but the McCheese DEM dead enders keep spending and announcing the next festa. It's the insane taxes-stupid. Cut something. Lay off 25% of City Hall lobs. End the Development Office.
