Let's see if the City decides to skip out on the bill again. Last year they refused to pay the $3 million owed to the schools...wonder how McCheese will slime his way out this time around.
How will McCheese slime his way out of the State audit? Tax cap? What's a tax cap? The DEM morons ruining the School Board have increased school taxes ABOVE the State Cap. More proof of how useless a tax cap is with these DEM morons. And town school taxes are even higher? Keep working together- lol. Expect things to get much worse without the Super John Y slashing bloated school budgets. Don't fret the DEM mailman and the social workers ruining the schools have a new plan!
They won't care!!! They don't give a rat's a$$ about the taxpayers!!!!
The government has a HUGE appitite for spending $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!

They won't care!!! They don't give a rat's a$$ about the taxpayers!!!!
The government has a HUGE appitite for spending $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!
As does the school district.
It's a very bitter pill to swallow knowing that our taxpayer money is being spent in a school district where teachers pensions and medical benefits receive better funding than students school books and middle schools.
This is where the state should have come in...not just to audit the City but to figure out why a multi-million school district can't graduate the vast majority of their students.
Have a failing middle school...just close them and pack the kids like sardines in another one. How's that High School working out for you?
School board President Cathy Lewis said the rate went up when city officials unexpectedly announced that Schenectady is overassessed. The city assessor set the equalization rate at 104 percent, which automatically reduced all property assessments by 4 percent. That left the school district in a bind. It had already done its tax levy calculations based on the old data. “Part of that [tax increase] is attributable to the reassessment,” Lewis said.
There was NO REASSESSMENT ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
STUPID STUPID STUPID
And the city assessor does NOT set the equalization rate! The state sets that!
Just wait until the school tax BILLS come in the mail. Just wait til the city and county tax BILLS come at the end of the year for next year. The "assessment value" WILL be the same as it was on your previous BILL from the previous taxing year !!!!!!!!
The assessment roll always showed the "assessed value." This year it shows two numbers: the "assessed value" and the "market value." The market value is the lower number.
However city residents WILL STILL HAVE THEIR TAXES CALCULATED ON THE HIGHER NUMBER !!!
Anyone on these boards who owns a property IN the city, and therefore has received a tax bill can look at the bill, they will clearly see a "full market value" amount AND a "assessed value" amount. Trying to use the example in the newspaper, if the "full market value" shows as $96,000, the "assessed value" will show as $100,000.
The "assessed value" shown will be THE SAME AS IT WAS LAST YEAR !!!!!!!!!!
So if your tax BILL is $2,154, then you can see that I tell the truth, I do NOT "lie and distort" as DV claims (but remember, those comments come from cuckoo who, having been an adult for 30 years has not yet left the nest).
If your tax BILL is $2,154 and the tax RATE is $21.54, then you will see that I tell the truth (as I have stated in other posts), your taxes are calculated on the assessed value----the assessed value HAS NOT CHANGED. The tax BILL is NOT calculated on the lower market value.
Now let's see a response posted from the cuckoo who has not left the nest yet and what he has to say in his "thesis" to explain how the wild spending of the dems has resulted in benefits, profits, and advantages for THE RESIDENTS, HOMEOWNERS, AND TAXPAYERS.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
City officials UNEXPECTADLY announced that Schenectady was overassessed!
THE CITY OFFICIALS WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO DIDNT KNWO THEY WERE OVER ASSESSED. Incompetent again!

Quoted Text Where is the outrage over school funding disparity in Sch’dy?
As a new resident of Schenectady with grandchildren in the public school system, I have been reading with great interest all of the articles regarding the schools in this city. I think that the coverage given by the paper has been a wonderful way to stay informed. On Dec. 11 I attended the winter concert at Paige Elementary and heard Superintendent Laurence Spring talk about the inequity of funding given school systems throughout the state. Schenectady is receiving just 54 percent of the state aid that it should be receiving by law! Schenectady has the dubious distinction of having the 13th-highest concentration of childhood poverty in the state. Clearly our children would not only benefit from our schools receiving their fair share of funding, but there is a very real possibility that they would actually thrive. It seems that Superintendent Spring is doing all that is possible to draw attention to this issue. According to all the articles I have read, including your Dec. 13 one, “Spring: Too many black kids getting mental health label,” he is shining a bright light in every corner of our school system. I would like to help him by applying as much pressure as possible regarding this disproportion in funding. It is appalling that our children, who are already facing terrible adversity, must suffer more by not receiving the best education possible because of spending cuts, programs barely operating on a shoestring and programs not available at all because the money just isn’t there. I can certainly write a letter to our governor and will, as I am sure other parents and grandparents will. However, how much more amplified would our voices be if article after article regarding this issue appeared in our local paper? Schenectady, one of the poorest districts in the state, is among 22 districts being funded below 54 percent. Only 3 percent of all districts are being funded at this level. Meanwhile, 138 districts are funded at 100 percent or more. More than $120 million is being overpaid to districts. Imagine the results if every Schenectady resident expressed outrage over this issue.
