SCHENECTADY Smoking ban proposed in all city parks BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.
Schenectady could be come the latest municipality to snub smoking in its parks. C o u n c i l w o m a n B a r b a r a Blanchard proposed extending the city’s partial smoking ban to an outright prohibition at parks. She cited the zero-tolerance policies adopted by other municipalities throughout the county, including Rotterdam, Glenville, Niskayuna and Scotia. Schenectady enacted a smokefree policy at its playgrounds, pools, pavilions and ball fi elds in June 2010; the city also attached a $50 fine for any violations, though such a penalty is hardly ever levied. Smoking had previously been banned only at Tiny Tot Land in Central Park and at city pools. “We should be going for the whole thing,” Blanchard said during the city council’s Health and Recreation committee meeting Monday. ................................>>>>...................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01004&AppName=1
Common sense would say not to smoke around playgrounds or tot lots but the whole park pffft yeah right. I can see walking through one of the trails at central park and have a cop try to give me a ticket for smoking a cigarette, I would laugh in his face and never pay the fine

This will NOT stop the potheads nor the crackers. Thats all thats being smoked in the park these days.
The parks are littered with those little pot baggies, not to mention I found a syringe and a burnt spoon next to a park bench before during one of my travels through the park.

Guess stray pit bulls, endless graffiti, poor schools, unsafe crosswalks and massive welfare fraud are not so pressing issues as smoking in crappy, unkept parks.
At least the drug users are stomping on the overgrown grass and weeds in Central Park.
Wow, do some of these Council memebers need medication?
