This announcement and the 100 jobs it will bring is just the beginning of more good news to follow.  Of course, the cowardly cuckoo and his/her nattering nayboob padded room roommates will just post some asinine response with some uninformed personal attacks to respond to each notice of new jobs and new developments in the county.

DV, we are NOT opposed to new jobs.   We are opposed to the socialism.

Look at the FACTS DV...  Look at the UNDISPUTABLE, UNDENIABLE FACTS:

GE is worth billions.   GE already got a sizeable tax reduction from your buddy dems---the same dems who REFUSE to acknowledge the FACTS that proof home values in the city are plummeting big time.

GE can MORE THAN AFFORD to pay for this project WITHOUT your buddy dems STEALING a whopping $20 MILLION from the financially struggling taxpayers.

Tell us DV, when are your buddy dems going to give tax breaks to the homeowners?????    Huh?????    Can you answer that?????   Of course  you can't answer it.

There is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO REASON IN THE WORLD that your buddy dems need to take $20 MILLLION of the taxpayers' money and give it to GE.

And the UNDISPUTABLE UNDENIABLE PROOF that I am right and you are wrong is that the hundreds of millions of dollars that your buddy dems have already stolen from the taxpayers to spend on downtown has NOT helped the city at all!
--The tax base is plummeting
--Homeowners are suffering drastic losses on their homes
--The taxes are increasing out of sight
--People can't sell their homes
--NO OINE wants to buy a home in the city---in fact, even YOU, DV, don't want to buy a home in the city, you have proven that.
--The city finances are in a shambles.

All these result from your dems taking the taxpayers' money and spending it on stupid wasteful projects that are NOT helping the city in the least!!!

And I DEFY you to provide evidence to the contrary.   Of course, you won't respond with any evidence to the contrary because there is none.

Wake up and see the truth.

The truth HURTS, admit it

I am under no obligation to respond to someone who hides his/her identity, has made threats to and false allegations statements about me and members of my family and who I believe to be a raging lunatic.   I will exercise my Constitutional right to respond to the people that I choose to respond to and to ignore the people I choose to ignore.  No amount of threats and abusive posts by a lunatic coward will make me do otherwise.  If you don't like it -- tough sh*t.

As for the news, it is good news.  All along I have stated that Schenectady County faces many challenges.  Many of those challenges caused by years of inept management by Republicans and the rest by demographics and the national economy and other factors beyond our control.    At the same time, I have steadfastly stated that the Democratic majority on the County Legislature, the City Council and many of the local Town Boards have begun to turn things around and the Schenectady County -- while still facing numerous challnges -- is beginning a positive trend or, in my words, a Renaissance.

I have NEVER said nor implied that Schenectady County doesn't have any problems nor have I ever said or implied that I agree with and/or personally support every decision made by every Democrat who holds a public office or controls a municipal board or council or holds any other elective or appointed position.   By and large, I believe they have done a very good job under the circumstances.  I have yet to see a compelling, constructive alternative offered by anyone from any other party or affiliation.  And if a Republican or person of any other affiliation comes along with a better idea, better plan, etc. -- I would not hesitate to support and promote the person and the idea.

Occasionally, I have posted my disapproval of or disagreement with certain positions taken or decisions made.  Whether those individuals like or dislike my disapproval of or disagreement with those positions or decisions, is really up to each of those individuals.  I didn't get involved in politics to win a popularity contest or  adhere blindly to "group-think" ---  if anybody has a problem with that .. that is his/her issue to deal with and not mine.  I separate politics from my personal relationships -- I can disagree with someone 2% or 100% and still enjoy a great friendship with that person.  Life has taught me that some people do not respond the same way -- sadly that is their loss and not mine.  But generally speaking, I have always been able to have a good spirited debate/disagreement with another person (and in some cases, take opposing views on a specific issue and have chosen to fight for my position passionately until it is resolved one way or the other)  and still be able to remain friends or remain amicable acquaintances.

I am going to focus on remaining positive and optimistic ... rationally studying and analyzing the issues .. and taking positions when necessary or when I choose to --- and in some cases to not take a stand.   I am not going to waste my time and energy on irrational (and in some cases, I believe insane) individuals who rant, make threats and false allegations and throw a tantrum demanding a response.

You mean that the never ending, drastic plummeting of home values in the city reflects that the dems have BEGUN to turn things around?   You CANNOT blame the plummeting property values on the general national economy and all the other stuff, bucause all around us home values are increasing. Like I said, the news today is that people who were underwater are coming out of it, but in Schenectady it's getting worse for them by the day.

Tell us, HOW is 8 years of NON-STOP REDUCTION of the taxbase an indication that things have BEGUN to turn around?

Tell us, how is it that the past 8 years of tax increase after tax increase after tax increase by the dems an indication that things have BEGUN to turn around?

How is 8 years of people trying to flee the city, and 8 years of inability to sell houses an indication that things have BEGUN to turn around?

You can't state anything that is better for the homeowner in the city as a result of the dem leadership.   I wont' even challenge you to answer that one because you will avoid commenting on that because you can't cite any examples with evidence---you'll just use your usual babble cop out response that no one is going to make you respond.

From the 7/10/12 edition of the Boston Globe

"SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—General Electric Co. announced Tuesday it will invest $70 million to double the production of its advanced sodium battery plant.

GE made the announcement as CEO Jeffrey Immelt toured the downtown Schenectady plant and discussed the expansion, which will add 100 new jobs. The plant will employ 450 workers when it's up to full capacity.

"Just a few years ago, researchers in our labs invented a new battery, one that was simple in its ingredients but advanced in its design and science, containing more than 30 patents," Immelt said. "It soon became obvious that we weren't just making a new battery; we were building a new business."

GE said the South African engineering company Megatron Federal has signed a purchase agreement for 6,000 of the Durathon batteries to be delivered in 2013 for telecom installations in Nigeria.

The sodium batteries will be used in GE's hybrid locomotive, heavy service vehicles and backup storage. Officials said the new plant will serve as a catalyst for economic development. It is expected to produce a million batteries this year.

Schenectady County contributed $5 million in assistance and tax breaks. GE also got $25 million in federal tax credits and $15 million in incentives from the state for the plant.

So Box, there aren't 450 jobs yet and with the $5 million in assistance/tax breaks, $25 million in fed tax credits and $15 million in state incentives.....$45 million in taxpayers money for 450 jobs not yet created.

Give it up Box NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS IN SCHENECTADY....YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!!!!

Maybe Rachel should petition GE to leave Schenectady... take all your GE jobs and go some where else.

Montgomery, Fulton, Hamilton, Schoharie, Warren, Saratoga, Washington counties... etc etc etc...
Would LOVE to have GE settle in their communities.

Maybe Box should stop using recycled stories from 2011 to boost up his own private agenda.

Recycled stories from 2011???  Really.

The story that I posted was from the Daily Gazette on July 10, 2012.
Gazette
http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2012/jul/10/ge-officially-opens-battery-plant-announces-expans/

And that same recycled story was also reported two days later in the Times Union.
TU
http://blog.timesunion.com/bus.....lant-capacity/54355/

I had no doubt that when some of this board read my post... they wouldn't see the added benefits of new
jobs in the area, or the prospect of even more expansion...
They would see what they always see... Gloom, and despair.
My agenda, if you want to call it that was an attempt to show how some posters here see the bad in every
thing... when there is no bad to be found... they invent it.  You've helped prove my point:
Once again... for some people...
'Nothing Good Ever Happens IN Schenectady... Ever!'

Of course, there goes the Know-Nothing-DV-Ronnie spewing nonsense babble because he doesn't comprehend how the wild spending downtown is drastically reducing the city's tax base and drastically increasing  taxes and all the other negative domino effects which must be addressed.   He spews his nonsense babble as a means to cover up his lack of ability to provide any examples of how the downtown projects have improved things for the homeowners in the city.

This story was first in the Gazetto in May 2011 and stated that the 350 jobs exist. Now this 7/10/12 story claims that the plant just opened? If it doesn't make sense...well, that's bad reporting.

You asked me to prove the $70 million isn't taxpayer money and according to the AP, $45 million is taxpayer funded.

My point is that you took a recycled, incomplete article from the Gazetto and read it as gospel. Box, you really need to dig a little deeper, maybe read the AP version instead of jumping on the band-wagon.

Listen, when my property taxes no longer equal my mortgage payments, I'll let you know when something great happens in Schenectady. Right now, my neighbors and friends in Schenectady need tax relief before GE needs another $5 million of our money for batteries.

This board loves bashing the Gazette... but the Gazette story is basically the same as the TU story...
only it was two days earlier.
