the ban has NOTHING to do with lack of water
it has EVERYTHING to do with poor management of our infrastructure....over and over and over and over again....

The watering ban was not due to a shortage of the water supply but rather to low pressure issues caused by an equipment problem.
Many lawns remained green looking throughout the ban for a few simple reasons: a) some people have private wells b) the type of grass seed planted -- some grasses are more drought tolerant than others c) shade trees - wise people have kept some of the big old shade trees to keep the harsh rays of the sun from baking their lawns d) mowing techniques --- letting the grass grow a bit before the 1st spring mowing allows the root system to grow, and a stronger, more developed root system does better in drought conditions --- and for god's sake mow on the HIGHEST setting on your mower not the lowest .. most people in town "scalp" their lawns instead of mowing it. |

Don't forget overnight watering and the lack of enforcement of the ban. |

We didn't use water at anytime during the ban and our lawn remained nice green. Just following some common sense lawn care techniques worked fine for us. |

Well many people have shorter, not shortest, lawns and they are pretty good. But that does require watering regularly, and we do pay taxes for the the water (unlike DV who does NOT)
Trees are nice, but NO ONE wants lots of trees with a swimming pool.
Trees are nice, especially Norway Maples however their roots spread like crazy. But people in town have septic and you cannot put trees by a septic; and not everyone in town has a hand-me-down paid-off house with a lavish taxpayer funded pension---MOST people work for years and then buy a themselves and even front lawns are not big enough for lots of trees. And homeowners ARE responsible for the pipes to their homes from the street. |

He keeps saying "we" like he it's HIS lawn too. He needs to use the proper wording that "My aunties's didn't use water at their house....." Of course it helps when your two mommies hire people to do the yard/lawn work too. Such has been seen over there and I will never admit to how I know. |

We have found from years of experience of doing all of our own lawn and yard work that the best grass seed mix is one that has mostly tall fescue and perennial rye. The tall fescue when mowed properly (not scalped to the ground like many folks do) develops a nice root system which allows it to perform well during dry spells in the summer. We have never seen the need to hire a lawn service or waste a lot of money on expensive chemicals and fertilizers.

WOW...so the experts must be wrong!
Quoted Text
Recommended Grass For New York Lawns Kentucky bluegrass blends are the best lawn grasses for the state of New York. Some may contain mixtures of turf-type perennial rye or a fine fescue variety to help establish a thicker lawn. Zoysia grasses may also be grown in the warmer areas of the state. Also it is best to use cultivars of Bluegrass that are resistant to Dollar spot and summer patch.
