I'm glad there are lunch programs but where are the parents in all of this?  I've seen first hand kids that went all weekend without eating and then showing up to school starved.

On a side note I went to price chopper on eastern ave sunday, I usually cut out coupons because it's the only way to try and get as much as I need for the week.

Ahead of me were two youngish men in probably their thirties with a good amount of "food" in their cart. They started talking about how much was left on their card. Somewhere in the one hundred sixty dollar range. Well after most was put through which I couldn't help noticing was mostly junk food, chips etc. they took out the fruit because it went over the limit on the card.

No coupons used, but they had their chips.

So mine is put through and I hand the cashier a one hundred dollar bill, and she stares at it, like she had never seen money before  

I used my coupons and saved about 12 dollars and still don't have enough for the week.

I am NOT against food stamp cards for those who need them, but jeez put back the chips and snacks and get the real food that will get you through the week.

No audits in the County and New York State is a free-for-all with food stamp cards.

Remember the days of government cheese? Vouchers for milk, bread and staple foods?

We keep hearing about obesity problems, but the government sets NO limits as to what a receipient can purchase with food stamps (well, aside from alcohol and paper products). Audit the items purchased for children on these cards....Ben & Jerrys...doritos...soda. No more PB&J, no more fresh meats and cheeses, the food stamp card has morphed into a junk-food-feeding-frenzy.

It has to have some limits placed upon it.

The horrible 1% job creators have all fled South and there is no one left to pick up the tab. Except County taxpayers. Keep the DEM implosion going! Thank God we have a "law enforcement expert" as Mayor- lol.

i'd love to see teh Mayor join the free lunch program. He could visit a different site every week to serve as a quality control        inspector.

It is quite amazing that food stamps can be used for the various junk food-chips,soda, frozen pizza etc.   But one may not purchase a wholly cooked and nutritional whole chicken at Walmart or a pre-made nutritional salad.   Must be those junk food lobbyists.
