The health care penalty IS a tax... The Supreme Court opinion said it was. If they determined it wasn't, it would have been struck down.

The health care penalty IS a tax... The Supreme Court opinion said it was. If they determined it wasn't, it would have been struck down.
But it was determined to be CONSTITUTIONAL. Call it a tax, as Justice Roberts did, or call it a fee, it matters not... Obama care is the law of the land... and the more the GOP fights it, the bigger the margin of victory for Obama in November.

Recent Press Releases June 28, 2012 DeMint Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Obamacare WASHINGTON, D.C.
Today, U.S. Senator DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement:
“The Supreme Court may have failed to stop this government takeover of health care, but the American people will not. Since the day this law was rammed through Congress, the American people have demanded repeal, and today’s ruling doesn’t make Obamacare any less dangerous to our nation’s health. Freedom-loving Americans are disappointed, but we cannot be discouraged.
“The President’s health care law must be fully repealed as all of its promises have proven false. We were told it was not a tax hike, but this ruling confirms it is an unprecedented and enormous tax on the poor and middle class Americans. President Obama needs to explain why he is enacting this middle class tax hike over the objections of the American people during the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression.
“We were told it would lower health costs, but health care premiums are exploding. We were told that Americans could keep their personal health plans, but millions will now lose it. We were told it would improve our economy, but it is now the largest obstacle to employers hiring new workers.
“This government takeover of health care remains as destructive, unsustainable, and unconstitutional as it was the day it was passed, unread, by a since-fired congressional majority. Now as then, our first step toward real health care reform and economic renewal remains Obamacare’s full repeal, down to the last letter and punctuation mark.
“I urge every governor to stop implementing the health care exchanges that would help implement the harmful effects of this misguided law. Americans have loudly rejected this federal takeover of health care, and governors should join with the people and reject its implementation.”
“The President’s health care law will not reform anything, but is already undermining what does still work in America’s health care system. We cannot build a free market health care system on this flawed structure of centralized government control, we must repeal all of it and start over with commonsense solutions that make health care more affordable and accessible for every American. We can allow Americans to purchase lower cost plans from other states, support state high-risk pools to cover those with pre-existing conditions, medical-malpractice reform to end frivolous lawsuits, and tax equity so Americans who don’t get their health insurance from an employer are not penalized.”
“Today’s decision, however unfortunate, nonetheless represents an opportunity to all Americans, to claim their right to create a health care system of, for, and by the people, not government or special interests. The American people now have the chance and Congress has the responsibility to fully repeal this Washington takeover and reform health care ourselves, together, around the principles of individual liberty, not government mandates.
“The same freedom that made America strong and prosperous will make us healthier, too, so long as politicians remember that the health care system is supposed to serve our people, and not the other way around.”
The Republicans only need 4 seats to take the US Senate and I think the Supreme Court just helped them to accomplish that. The truth Box is that the Reps had ideas but the Dems didn't want to hear them, shut them out of all discussion of the bill behind a locked door, refused to let the Dems go home to pole their constituents, and passed it without a Rep vote at midnight against the wishes of 71% of the population. How soon we forget but people will be reminded many times before now and November.
Really Shadow??? You seem to have 'selective memory' on this subject.
Consider this:
Republicans, And Their Ideas, Were Left Out Of The Bill And The Process??? Adopted REPUBLICAN ideas in Health Care Reform: --Deficit-neutral bill --Longterm cost reduction --Interstate competition that allows consumers to purchase insurance across state lines --Medical malpractice reform --High-risk pools --An extension of the time young people were allowed to remain on their parents' policies --No public money for abortion --Small business exemptions/tax credits --Job wellness programs --Delivery system reform
In fact, the Democrats were eager to get GOP input and enthusiastic about including many of their desired components in the bill.
Oh, and did I mention that the Affordable Care Act was modeled on a reform designed and implemented by a former Republican governor and presidential candidate, whose innovation was widely celebrated by the GOP while said former governor was running for president? And did we mention that the individual mandate that was used in Romneycare to ensure "no free riders" was originally dreamed up by the Heritage Foundation? And did we add that additional DNA of the Affordable Care Act was borrowed from the Senate GOP alternative to the Clinton plan in the 1990s and the 2009 Bipartisan Policy Committee plan, which was endorsed by Tom Daschle, Howard Baker, and Bob Dole?

The cost of Obamacare??? 2% of the federal budget... (source CBO)
We now spend over 50% of the federal budget on the military. Time to cut the Tanks and fund Americans Health.
Hey stupid....Guess what?
The USSC ruled that the 'individual mandate' is a tax....So, in effect, Obama just levied the US with the largest tax hike in world history.

It does matter...Don't you get it, Box? It was determined to be constitutional BECAUSE it is a tax. That is the ONLY reason it was upheld.

The big difference Box is that it was done on the state level not by the federal government. When the POTUS stands up in front of the American people and says it's not a tax and then fights it in the court as a tax it's nor propaganda it a LIE. MT is correct on everything that he posted. The Dems took the best of the Reps ideas as their own so as not to give the Reps any credit. Now the Dems own the bill and "We the people" may reward them the same way as they were rewarded in the elections of 2010. The Dems were not eager to even have a Rep in the room when it was drawn up and saying so doesn't change the facts.
LMAO!!!....Bet you'll be laughing when in a few years you break your hip and instead of it being fixed you'll get a pill for the pain.

AND????
Call it a tax as Chief Justice Roberts did, of a fee, or what ever you want to call it...

Since he's older, he'll be allowed to die "with dignity" rather than wasting resources on health care for someone who's not a productive member of society any longer.
Call it a tax as Chief Justice Roberts did, of a fee, or what ever you want to call it...
Good God Box, you don't want to admit your boy Obama was wrong that it wasn't a tax? Unlike you, I don't go whining and blame the political affiliation of the court when a decision doesn't go my way. The decision has been made, the individual is constitutional because it is a tax. The Majority opinion said so...it was written by Roberts, but it represents the view of the 4 Liberals on the court also. If the Liberals didn't agree with Roberts opinion, they could have written a separate opinion. It HAS been done before in other court decisions.

What was it that GHW Bush said, "read my lips no new taxes" how did that work out for him? Raising taxes in a recession on people who can't afford to pay their mortgages, can't find jobs, economy growing at 1.1%, and the Feds have borrowed so much money that we will never be able to pay for the Health-Care Law anyway.
