We have posted the agenda for next Wednesday's Town Board meeting. Lo and behold...another 156 apartments are being proposed for Burdeck Street. These will be located at the Route 7 end of Burdeck.
How many more new apartments do we need in Rotterdam?
after watching the last TB meeting in Sept...... the Supvr gave a dissertation of how they came to the tentative budget for 2013 which by no doubt will be
passed even with input from the residents that may not agree. the Supvr...stated he "squeezed" pennies..... there will be no layoffs or extravagant
spending.....however....notice that the Senior Center Cafeteria now has a full time cook.... with benefits that are not in seeable print.....making $23K yearly +
would add up to $40k per year...approx..... does that mean that the Cafeteria will be open 8 hrs a day???...how much will be made to compensate for the
amount budgeted ???...how many breakfasts, lunches, special dinners will add to the expense that this will cause.....remember...electricity, heat, and the cost
of the products for ingredients for the "delicious" cuisine....food prices are going up ....along with what needs to be in the ingredients.
.having said that.....does the Center warrant that much of the taxpayers' money???.....is the Center breaking even?? or has it
been a monkey on the Town's back.....for years it was often stated that more hours were wanted... full charge wanted....wanted it all.
That has happened at a price that is not priceless. Understanding that exercise, sewing, ceramic, is very much a part of the curriculum.....more classes have
been added and more hours the Center will be open....that's understandable...also, because of this...now a full time laborer is needed....at one point there
was no one to do this...thru retirement and layoffs....a PTimer was hired.
It seems that favoritism succeeded in what has became a political arena ....
How many Rotterdam residents will be partaking in the daily menu....how many Rotterdam Seniors will enjoy the facilities???.....and is there a possibility
that Rotterdam will open its doors to others who do not reside in Rotterdam???..to at least try to break even....
The "food" for thought is that while the Town deserves the best for its residents....is it necessary to budget more money in this poor economic climate and
to burden the taxpayers with what has turned out to be the source for one's own political agenda ? with the guise of being a Cafe??
Think about it......read the budget and see that the $$$$$ have gone up considerably...Is it really necessary or is it a necessity for someone???
