While I am in full support of our troops, I believe there are more important things that should be happening right now.  Even if there was home rule passed in this case, should the state really be worrying about things like this when the entire state is coming crashing down due to the ineptness of those serving in Albany / Washington D.C.?

Legislature Passes Tedisco Bill to Name Route 9P Bridge “Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge”

June 21st, 2012 by JimTedisco
Legislation renames bridge linking Saratoga Springs with Town of Saratoga in honor of our veterans who gave us “everything we hold dear”
Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga) today announced that the New York State Legislature has passed his bill (A98305A/S.6967A) designating the New York State Route 9P bridge over Fish Creek linking the city of Saratoga Springs and the town of Saratoga as the “Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge.”
The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors passed a home rule resolution in March asking for the state legislature to rename the bridge in honor of county veterans.
“What do we owe our veterans? In a word: everything. Everything we hold dear as Americans, all of our freedoms and liberties and the relative safety we enjoy as compared to most people around the world,” said Tedisco, former Minority Leader and current Assistant Minority Whip, whose late father, Nicholas was a veteran of World War II.
“Renaming the State Route 9P Bridge as the ‘Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge’ is a small gesture for the huge sacrifices of the men and women of our armed forces to show how much our state owes all those who have fought for our country and gave their lives so that we can be free,” said Tedisco, who in 2000 sponsored and passed a resolution designating the American G.I. as the Person of the Century.
“I hope when motorists cross the bridge and see the sign honoring our Saratoga County Veterans they take a moment and think about all those who gave their last full measure of devotion to make this country the greatest nation on Earth,” said Tedisco.
