I asked my daughter the teacher if she saw the video, she only saw it on the news I told her to watch the whole thing.
She said as soon as ONE kid said something rude to her she should have used a strong voice and stopped it in it's tracks.
At her school teachers wonder why the kids behave so well for her. She has a loving heart but does not allow the kids to "trample" on her.
With my oldest grandson who just turned 5 and is smart as a whip, well he has gotten alittle mouthy lately. So she puts him in time out for 5 minutes. She said he'll be sitting there saying I'm sorry Mommy etc ........
I'm very proud of her, the wonderful Mom she is and also the wonderful teacher she is, her inspiration was a reading teacher she had at MLK .
Anyways she said the bus monitor was not able to handle the job.
I'm thinkin she was a monitor for so many years maybe she just burned out.
She is getting alot of money, maybe she will donate most to a charity?
Part of a bus monitors job is to maintain order and keep the kids in their seat-neither of which she did. I'm glad to see an outpouring of people who find the kids behavior deplorable, but it's crazy that she getting such a hefty reward for being awful at her job.
Too often with children the adults who are suppose to be in charge are nothing but dead weight--only there to fill some state mandated number.
Well, first I propose VOLUNTARY participation. Second, K - 8th grade, there are VERY FEW ELECTIVES. Third, learning the 3 R's does not require 7 hours a day(not including homework time) in ten 40 minute intervals, 5 days a week, 9 months out of the year for 13 years.
I know when I was in school; we were mandated to take a foreign language, an instrument, home economic, and "technology". All of which I had no interest in. And even if I had been interest, a 40 minute class every other day between gym class and lunch wasn’t a conducive to learning. Needless to say, I can't sew a patch on a sweater (home eco,.) I can't speak Spanish, and I can't play an instrument.(I tried to learn guitar after I graduated - not my bag.)
People never seem comfortable questioning the effect the system has on children. We just clamor for more state programs like anti bullying classes, or even better yet, having psycho therapist perform chemical lobotomy with Ritalin to help those hyper children conform.
One in ten Americans are on anti depressants - up 400% in 20 years. 80% of all pain meds prescribed in the world is prescribed to Americans. What is going on in America? Why are we so afraid to question the system that shapes the minds of our youth?
I guess it goes to show that school works.
VERY TRUE...don't forget about all the 'specialists' in public schools to make sure the 'special folk' get on.....(this isn't to belittle those with learning needs) but being 'different' to stand out and be oneself is difficult. To be oneself outside school isn't even allowed. "sit in the corner for a time out Johnny". Nooooo don't spank or say no to the kid. "use your words Johnny". "let's not make bad choices Johnny." etc etc.......public schools are herding institutions so the human adults can get to the grind for the machine. Treat them like cattle and BAM! cattle. shocked? nah....we get what we deserve.....
how about the 'labels' applied by the public schools and the experts all tied up in the system for a means to manage?
NEWBORN JOINS THIS EARTH AND QUICKLY IS SUBDUED
The only person who 'learned a lesson' is that bus monitor. Next time fu(k the system and let someone else be the monitor. the system really doesn't give a sh!t about you, never has, never will, and has no soul.
The kids learned they got to send her on a vacation. WOW! their own little reality show.......I bet they're proud.....
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
The following is a partial statement issued from the Greece School District:
“Greece Central School District Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams today announced that the due process requirements have been met and the district is able to release the result of their investigation and the assignment of disciplinary consequences for the four Athena Middle School students involved in the mistreatment of their bus monitor.
“Following individual meetings this week with school and district administrators, each family waived their right to a hearing and agreed to one-year suspensions from school and regular bus transportation. The Greece Central School District is legally required to provide all students ages 5 to 16 with an education, therefore, during the 2012-13 school year, the students who have been suspended will be transferred to the district Reengagement Center, located in a non-school facility. This alternative education program keeps middle school students on track academically while providing a structured opportunity for students to take responsibility for their actions by completing community service hours and receiving formal instruction related to conduct and behavior that prepares them for a productive future. The program includes a strong parent involvement component.
“Each student will be required to complete 50 hours of community service with senior citizens and will complete a formal program in bullying prevention, respect and responsibility. In accordance with district policy, if at 30 weeks into the school year the students have completed the conditions of their discipline and are in good standing at the Reengagement Center, they can apply for early readmission to Athena Middle School.”

While not condoning these kids behavior.......looks like the school needs to also hire bus monitors that have some balls! imo
