You are 100% correct Alias.  The thread was hijacked and it's original subject  is important to many who
live in the area.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Nobody this year.  Town board elections are odd years.  Next year is Buffardi, Calder and Martin, I believe.  Supervisor is up every 2 years.  Not definitely sure on the other two.

Good one Joe!

I think GE made the J79 engine for the F4 Phantoms, I'm sure you know exactly how those engines sound when being called in for an airstrike on some gook village.  Estimated 2 million Vietnamese dead and 58K Americans, and GE making BILLIONS to make it all possible.  We should have a parade for GE.

It's not in the portion that was posted, and I don't subscribe to the Gazette, so I had no clue.  I'll still be at work anyway, so maybe some of you septi- and octi-genarians and/or our resident quinquagenarian who has nothing better to do than sit in his basement will have a chance to get there and update us how this is the most wonderful thing.

GE to pay $49 million in taxes under PILOT agreement with Rotterdam, Schalmont, county
Wednesday, June 20, 2012
By Justin Mason (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

ROTTERDAM — General Electric will pay about $49 million in taxes to the town, county and Schalmont school district under a 10-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement expected to be approved by all three entities today.

The agreement will set the value of the 322-acre property at $132 million, which is a $6.5 million reduction from the most recent town assessment. The new assessment will mean General Electric is owed money from all three entities, but the company agreed to waive interest on the refund and allow the town, county and school district to split the repayment over the 10-year duration of the PILOT agreement.

“This agreement eliminates costly litigation and sets the stage for a new partnership between Rotterdam and GE,” Supervisor Harry Buffardi said in a statement released this afternoon.

The amount of the refund owed by the three taxing entities was not immediately clear this afternoon. Despite the assessment reduction, General Electric will pay $4.8 million in taxes on the property or the amount it would owe if it were valued at $141 million during the first five years of the agreement. These payments increase to $5 million per year during the last half of the agreement, an amount that is equivalent to the taxes General Electric would pay were the property valued at $146 million.

Rotterdam and General Electric have legally sparred over the assessed value of the company’s property along Interstate 890 since 1983. The swath of land includes the company’s 1-million-square-foot-plus steam turbine plant known as Building 273, which was toured by President Barack Obama in 2011.

Justin failed to quote the assessor quote at the time - in reference to GE

they can afford it - or something like it was said in public defending the assessors assessment of the property

- now can we afford to have appointees like this  - stupidity that results in 40 plus years of pain by homeowners and business

bobby always has it coming - zzzzzzzzzzzz

maybe you forgot one of our assessors said this back in 2000 about GE he was a REP appointment  recommended by the master plumber

"maybe for the first time in along time they'll be paying their fair share"

but it is the town board that lets this stuff happen the board appoints the assessor

hire one who will do the job requardless of who the propertry owner is

assessors should shut the Fu(k up

i may not agree with the current admin about all the meetings on one day and the lack of openness but at least they watch what they say  - the super has some of them in control

these issues are the responsibiliy of the town board for they as a team are the managers of the town

assessors and the GOP - have destroyed the party

assessors and the DEMs - home run

hmmmmmmm.
