...............to erect what appears to be a drive-in style screen in your backyard...............the structure I'm speaking of sits in the backyard next to a pool and I'm guesstimating it stands 14 -15' tall and about the same width...............it's on Mariaville Rd. just a few houses east of Ford Ave. on the north side of the street............it's also clearly visible from Glenville St...................if I remember I'll grab my camera tomorrow and snap some pics when I go for my walk..........smacks of La famiglia

nope, it looks like a movie screen.................or possibly a privacy screen, it's freakin' huge, and I'm not real hip on zoning issues in town, but I can't believe it's legal.......................the property looks like some sort of enclave...................several building, very well kept up, but still if everyone started building these in their yards...............well anyway I'll have photos tomorrow, along some other annoying things I've noticed lately....................

Depends on what it is and what it is being used for....I guess.

The only reason I say this is because we know of some folks...not in rotterdam....who have held graduation parties for their kidsand have had videos/pics of the kid on the screen from when they were babies right up to the present.

Also seen it done with back yard (after the wedding) wedding receptions. (again, not in rotterdam) A couple we knew got married in the fla keys. When they returned their folks gave them a 'back yard' reception with a screen that showed the ceremony that was performed in the fla keys.

OH.....and these screens in both cases were rented.

So I guess it all depends.

this is a permanent structure..................built with 4x4 pressure treated posts and looks to be pressure treated plywood as the screen the fronts painted white...........I don't remember seeing it until late last summer, and really didn't think much about it until today.............believe me it's huge and built to last........like I said it stands taller, I'm guessing 15', than some of the buildings on the property............I can't believe it's legal

Interesting. If the wall is indeed over 15' tall and legal I may consider building a handball court in my backyard.

the photos: the first 2 were taken from M'ville Rd.

These 2 were taken from Rotterdam St., which I mistakenly identified as Glenville St. in my op..

I spent some time going thru the town code seeing if anything like this was covered, and although I found nothing specific there are some regs. relating to how far towers, windmills etc. need to be set back from adjoining properties........this structure is clearly in violation of those sections

so theoretically if I wanted to erect a fence taller than code I code build several of these........as Rusty stated a hand ball court with it's 16' front wall could also be built

LOL ya think................................btw the property does have a Mediterranean vibe.............and in addition to the primary residence there is what looks like a separate  in-law dwelling alongside as well as a garage that also seems to serve the dual purpose of a cabana...........so I ask again is it legal?

Neighbors don't seem to mind.....no?

Perhaps one should gather all of their facts before plastering private property all over the internet....such as going to rotterdam's town hall first...........yes?

Not sayin it's legal or not.....just saying....

You'd think that "virtual Rotterdam's" resident poster / town "official" could provide an answer.

But then the question is, who owns the property.  Any "town connections"  ??
