I bring this up because I was dismayed this morning as I went to the market to secure supplies and noticed a rather porcine woman climb out of here car which was taking up a handicap parking space. She then dispatched her equally grossly obese child? to retrieve one of those motorized carts and rode off. Yes there was a handicap sticker hanging from her mirror which raised my question. Wouldn't it be better if rather than giving handicap stickers to the obese, that we instead make them walk? I propose obese only parking spaces, specifically set up a minimum of 50 yards from the entrance to a building. This would free up the handicap spaces for those who are truly handicapped. Food for thought?

I would state that obesity itself is not a handicap.  The issue, however, is that sometimes, with extreme obesity, it can bring on additional issues, which may fall under this, and the fact is that not every handicap is immediately visible.  If there was a sticker / plackard issued, then there has to be some sort of issue.  As far as your idea to make people walk, that will only work as well as the handicap stickers, you know, the people who bring grandma along to the store so they can leave her sitting in the car so they don't have to walk from the ends of the earth at another parking spot.

Good points Rampage. Yet I wonder if some of these handicapped stickers are being given for the right reasons. I guess I just find it offensive to see a middle aged woman weighing in the neighborhood of 500 lbs. waddling to a motorized cart so she can go into the store so she can stock up on twinkies and fruit pies, while a frail looking 80 something is forced to walk the extra yards with a walker because all the parking spaces are occupied by these behemoths.

I myself at one time weighed nearly 450 lbs., but after a very serious health scare was convinced to lose weight. I lost nearly 300 lbs. and feel absolutely wonderful now. I would hope others would have the same revelation. And no we do not need government involved, this must be done on a personal level. Perhaps denying handicapped spots to the grossly obese would be a step in the right direction.

A friend of ours has been a diabetic since childhood. Obesity comes hand in hand with this disease. Our friend has suffered fromheart ailments to nerve damage to almost blindness to kidney issues......all a result from diabetes.

A relative of ours also suffers from a milder case of obesity due to cancer of the thyroid. Leaving this person exhausted, low heart rate and dangerously low blood pressure.

Obesity, in any form, is not always the result of someone who 'needs to get out and walk more'.

But not to worry....GOV ALMIGHTY is restricting what foods and drinks you can consume!!! So handicapped tags should become almost a thing of the past!!!

I know there had been some issues in town under the previous administration.  Wondering, did you happen to see where / when the handicap placard was handed out?  Was it one of Eunice's Friends and Family Plan members?

preventative medicine DOESN'T EXIST for things like this....so when the conversation about national healthcare just tosses the word around it pulls on folks heart strings/guilt

national healthcare

VS

national health insurance

even then the word insurance is obfuscating the truth........

Is there an elevator???  LOL  How about a bat-pole, so they don't have to walk back down?  You know, the minorities need to get all the rights, there should be a right to a slip-and-slide down after you get your drink, since you already exercised all the way up to get it.

I wonder if Rusty has an issue with fat people, or is it with his lack of trust in the government, that he pays, to issue the placards upon proof of disability?

Someday you will say OMG he was right.

The government will at some point in time declare being too skinny is unsafe to your health driving up health care costs.

Skinny people will then be mandated to belly up.

Bars must be 5 stories below ground. Drunk people that can't climb 5 stories of stairs won't be able to drive.
