SCHENECTADY — Several children are among eight people from two families who are getting help from the local Red Cross after being displaced from their home by an early morning fire, a city fire official said.
Deputy Chief John Nichol said the blaze erupted at 6:45 a.m. Saturday on the second-floor of the two-family home at 1016 Delamont Ave. in the city's Hamilton Hill neighborhood.
Nichol said firefighters contained the fire to the second floor and that investigators are looking into a cause, but they don't believe it was deliberately set.
"It's still under investigation but I don't think they're looking at it as suspicious," said Nichol.
