New York Plans to Ban Sale of Big Sizes of Sugary Drinks
Chang W. Lee/The New York Times
By MICHAEL M. GRYNBAUM
Published: May 30, 2012 191 Comments

New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts, in the most ambitious effort yet by the Bloomberg administration to combat rising obesity.

The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March...................>>>>..............................>>>>..................http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/31/nyregion/bloomberg-plans-a-ban-on-large-sugared-drinks.html?_r=1

No he's not, he's a progressive leftist.

What?...You mean you wouldn't want this on a federal level?

I think alcohol should be sold in 2 ounce containers to prevent alcoholism.

Fat people will just buy 2 drinks at a time. This law will be stupid.

He was a republican though, so ya gotta support him.  He won in 2009 on the Republican line.  If he was running against Obama for president, you'd be sucking his a**.  Romney implemented universal health insurance in Massachusetts and he's your guy.  He's not a progressive liberal though.

Bloomberg will soon be OUT of office --- and a sensible and sane Democratic candidate will restore respectability to that venerable position.

NYC mayor signs donut proclamation
By: Grace Rauh
There was a bit of a celebration across the country and in New York City Friday for donut day. The national day comes only a day after Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced plans to ban over sized sodas, but that didn't stop the mayor from signing a donut proclamation. As YNN's Grace Rauh reports, the mayor doesn't dislike all sugary items.

315-pound Harlem man says Bloomberg should take big gulp of 'mind your own business'

He’s certainly not sweet on Mayor Bloomberg.
At 315 pounds, six-footer Anthony Taylor says the mayor should take a big gulp of “mind your own business” when it comes to regulating sugar-laden drink sizes.
“People are going to buy two drinks instead of one, and it’s going to cost them more, too,” said the hefty Harlem resident. “It shouldn’t be up to Mayor Bloomberg to order us how much we should drink; he doesn’t have the right.”
Taylor, a road manager for rapper Biz Markie, says he enjoys every sip of his 280 calorie, 69-grams of sugar laden, 32-ounce “Sweet Tea” from McDonald’s.....................>>>>.................>>>>.........Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/this_is_the_last_straw_qgfbyZPRKVfGWW8sj1wpwO#ixzz1wp8l5FdI

They REALLY need to ban the purchase of soda, chips, candy, cookies, kool-aid, frozen prepared foods/TV dinners, and all those "helper" boxed foods as eligible items to be used with the food stamp cards.   Can you hear DV now, wondering what he would do without the junk food on his EBT card?
