Driver facing charges after crash in Schenectady

Five people in one car were sent to the hospital after an accident in the city of Schenectady. It happened around 4 a.m.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Six people were involved in a crash around 4 a.m. in the City of Schenectady, and now the driver is facing several charges.

Police said they pulled over a car on Grand Avenue and Hulett Street after it ran a red light. Officers say the car's occupants gave them some false information on their identities. When they approached the car a second time, the driver sped off. Officers did not chase after the car.

The car then crashed into a pole at the intersection of Francis Avenue and Howard Street.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, as did some of the victim's friends.

Toni DellaRocco of Schenectady said, "She called us, said she got pulled over, then we came to the scene."

"Crazy," said Santanna Rowny. "I [saw] my friend hanging out the car. I [saw] them all bleeding. I was in shock."

Two people in the car, including the driver, were sent to Albany Medical Center with unknown injuries. Three other passengers were taken to Ellis with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, whose name is not being released at this time, is facing charges of criminal impersonation, five counts of reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license and other traffic violations.

Police are also looking into the driver's possible criminal history.

SCHENECTADY — Five people wound up in the hospital and a city woman faces a host of misdemeanors after allegedly lying to patrol officers and then crashing her car early Friday morning in an attempt to getaway from them, according to police.

The incident began to unfold shortly after 4 a.m. Friday when police pulled over a vehicle being driven by Aisha Pound, 20, at Hulett Street and Grant Avenue.

Once officers returned to their cruiser to check Pound's motor vehicle information, she sped off south on Hulett toward the Mont Pleasant neighborhood ostensibly because she had lied to them about her identity because of a outstanding petit larceny warrant from Guilderland.
