The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today announced that Gatherers Granola will move its production facility to the Broadway Commerce Park in downtown Schenectady after selling its products at the Schenectady Greenmarket for the past year.
Alessandro Gerbini, President of Gathers Granola said, “We outgrew our existing space which is leased from the All Good Bakery in Albany. We always have been well received in Schenectady County at the Greenmarket so we looked here for our new facility. We are pleased to establish operations in the downtown area which offers us everything we need to help our business grow.”
“We have worked hard to create an environment that supports local businesses through opportunities like the Greenmarket,” said Judy Dagostino, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature. “We are proud that our residents continue to buy local and support businesses like Gatherers Granola, a great home-grown success story. I welcome them to Schenectady County and look forward to their continued expansion.”
The company will lease 2,000 square feet of space with an option to take 3,000 square feet of additional space. Gatherers Granola will move three jobs to Schenectady and plans to add two more in the next few years.
The granola product is sold in selected Price Chopper and Shop Rite stores, the Honest Weight Food Co-op, the Niskayuna Co-op, the Delmar Marketplace and stores in Syracuse, Buffalo and Vermont.
The product is made from all natural ingredients using locally produced ingredients whenever possible.
Metroplex is providing a $7,500 grant toward the cost of renovating the facility in the Broadway Commerce Business Park to handle commercial food production. The company is investing $35,000 while the building owner is providing $18,000 toward fit-up costs.
Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen said, “We welcome Gatherers Granola to Schenectady County and we look forward to their continued expansion. Schenectady County is looking to attract food manufacturers as we have a bountiful water supply and other key factors looked at by this industry when making site selection decisions.”
Alessandro Gerbini, company president, is a graduate of the RPI's Product Design and Innovation Program in the School of Humanities, Arts and Sciences.
The Broadway Commerce Business Park was developed jointly by Metroplex and Highbridge Development. It is an in-city business park on Broadway just off of I-890 and close to many downtown amenities. Tenants include: Griffin Greenhouse; Marcella’s Appliances; Argo Turboserve Corporation; ABC Supply Co, Inc.; Plank Construction; Eurotile and Stone; Schenectady County Federal Credit Union and others.
The Schenectady Greenmarket is held each Sunday all year round from 10 am to 2 pm in downtown Schenectady. It is one of the largest fresh food markets in the Capital Region. For more information, see http://www.schenectadygreenmarket.org.

Of course, watch DV, or one of his imaginary friends, post here something like Metroplex is wonderful, McCarthy is so great, etc. etc. and all sorts of babble.
But he will REFUSE to tell us HOW this is helping Schenectady when the FACT is, and the EVIDENCE PROVES, that all these Dem projects are causing the property values in the city to TANK BIG TIME, and the TAXABLE tax base has been LOWERED SUBSTANTIALLY, and this is all causing the homeonwers to be taxed to the Nth degree.
The Dem projects are, no, HAVE PUT the homeowners in GRAVE DANGER of losing their homes because they are paying not only the property and school taxes on their own homes, but the financially struggling homeowner are being FORCED to pay the taxes of the millionaires and politically connected downtown.
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY does DV REFUSE, absolutely REFUSE to explain why it is GOOD that homeowners are going to lose their homes?????
Of course, neither DV nor any of his imaginary friends pay taxes!!!!!!!!!
.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
The wild spending, the taxpayers being robbed--forced to hand over their hard earned money to private businesses, COURTESY OF THE DEMS, has put Schenectady in the HOLE
$5 MILLION deficit
Property values TANK some 30% or more!
NO ONE wants to buy a house IN the cityi
And neither DV nor any of his imaginary friends can produce one teen weeny shred of EVIDENCE to prove otherwise.
He is still sitting at his computer trying to figure out how to contradict what Mike and Christine are saying

And the Renaissance keeps rolling along! ......set to the tune of the Caisson Song!
why do you ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to provide even one teeny weeny shred of EVIDENCE of the renaissance you write about?
Why?
Don't you have the GUTS to say you can't find any????
How in the world a town official can't provide any evidence is beyond me

MC1 let's do the breakdown here.
This business was leasing space in Albany (this location pays property and school taxes)
The Metroplex is luring this business into Schenectady by giving $7,500 (wow, they must not have lots left in the kitty) .
So what happens? Metroplex lost $7,500, another non-tax-paying business gets free space in the City and no new jobs for Schenectady (sorry...this is 'projected' job creation).
Is McCarthy awake or is he not aware that valuable City property is being given away by Gillen.
Has the 'handbag' business moved into schenectady yet? Haven't heard anything in the gazetto about that!
And rachel you are correct......it's another lose/lose for schenectady!!!

McMayor was sitting on the Metrograft bored approving every tax exemption and screwing every taxpayer. Meanwhile of 400 City vehicles-100 were involved in an accident LAST YEAR. City liability insurance jumped $1,800,000 because of McMayor's "leadership". Three possible new jobs all at the expense of the oppressed taxpayers. More imaginary jobs for McMayor to lie about "creating" in DEM junk mail. Meanwhile another Death Ray special ME fled from Center City after their free rent ran out.
