Quoted from exit3
remember fees are EXEMPT from the TAX CAP

soon there will be high fees
for calls to the dispatch station
"we will need you Credit Card number, expiration, and security code before we transfer you to a dispatcher"
RPD when they arrive will draw their town provided cell phone insert the "square" and CHA CHING - swipe you credit card for service
then and only then will they proceed

word has it Chief Hamilton is working on a Police Insurance Plan for residents via his LLC

PRICELESS.....the fee will be attached to the 911 fee we already pay via our cells and land lines......

People have bought into the idea that "government" is a separate entity from the people, and "government" is entitled to every last dollar they can possibly get from the people, and that you will just have to get used to the idea of paying more and more for less and less, that's just how things are.

We have unlimited water-even $100 annually would be a good deal and could offset any future tax increases.  Stop being so cheap.

the higher the taxes and fees....the more government employees/salaries/pensions/healthcare!

that's the way they do it in Schenectady!

You got that right, bt!
I'm curious how one arrives at the conclusion that an individual is cheap for not blindly forking over more and more of their hard earned money without positive proof that the cost is what it is. Why would anybody write a check so someone else can enjoy a better salary and benefits than they have?

I've come up with a new funding mechanism for Schenectady city government. No more property tax portion to the city, just the school tax. No fees either. You just turn over your entire paycheck to the city, and they give you back roughly the amount they want you to have, probably equal to DSS benefits, or perhaps minimum wage. Here's the catch- anybody who's income comes from the city, whether or not they live here, is subject to the same minimum wage allowance. We'd probably end up with more money to spend on snow plowing, paving, parks, etc. Do you think they'd go for that?

You know if they added just one percent to the county sales tax, we would be able to have zero property taxes and zero school taxes.

That way everyone would pay, not just some.

I'm including Rotterdam, Niskayuna, Scotia and Glenville along with the city.

One percent sales tax and our homes would instantly go up at least 25% in value.

The properties would soon become fought over by investors.

Instant balanced budgets.

The homeowneres could then take their money and head to Home Depot  and Lowes, and upgrade their homes.

If they added a garbage fee to city taxpayers' bill, they'd have more money left in the budget for things like snowplowing. In theory. In reality, it does not matter how much cash you grab, if the cash does not go toward the things it is intended for, you will not get what you paid for. Snow plowing is expensive. Since it is illegal to plow public roads yourself, we depend on the city to get it done. When Mayor McCarthy took over, we saw more plowing, at first. It wasn't good plowing, but the plows were out. Since then, I think they realized that if you spent the residents' money on plowing, it got used up fast, and you had less money to waste on other pet projects, so now, even though we pay plenty of money for plowing, we have streets that are a mess, and unsafe.
You can raise fees all you want, you are just throwing good money after bad, unless you can trust the people you hand your money over to.

it doesn't matter WHAT they say the cash goes to, either for fees/taxes/surcharges etc.....IT NEVER COMES BACK TO THE
TAXPAYER.....it gets shuffled around from dept to dept based on 'need'......

either way it's a monster eating up wealth....the government eats up wealth

You are right IF they did what was right and eliminated the property tax but you know and we all know (except J.O. Box who defends the political class every inch of the way) that they would just take that money and KEEP the prop tax and then BLOW IT ALL ON WASTEFUL SPENDING!
