SCHENECTADY — For the third time in as many days, city fire investigators are looking into a suspicious blaze in the Central State Street neighborhood, according to fire Chief Michael Della Rocco.
At 9:30 p.m. Monday, fire crews were summoned to 30 Kelton Ave., a vacant two-family dwelling that had been converted into four units, the chief said, adding that neighbors said squatters had taken up residence there.
The home was heavily damaged by the fire that appears to have begun in the rear and spread quickly, Della Rocco said. The building will likely be demolished Tuesday.
No one was injured, and the next-door neighbors were allowed to return after officials evacuated their building, he said.
The chief said Monday night's blaze is part of a disturbing trend.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Fire destroyed a building in Schenectady. The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. Monday near State and Hawk streets.
Fire fighters say the building was vacant and they don't believe anyone was hurt. While they have not released a cause for this fire, officials told YNN just last week that fires at abandoned and vacant buildings throughout the city have been a growing problem.
It's amazing how an empty, vacant building, likely without electric or gas service, can suddenly a burn down.
Funny how that works out.
And this isn't the first time a 'rash of vacant buildings' went up in flames.
Seems to run a a more or less 10 year cycle

A second suspicious fire began at 5 p.m. at 738 Albany St.
Officers noticed smoke coming from the vacant building. The Scotia and Carmen fire departments extinguished the small fire. Police said they do not know if Monday's blazes are related to each other or other suspicious fires in the last few days.
The SPD is investigating the discovery of a man's body on the second floor of long vacant Andy's Ski Shop at 738 Albany Street by neighbors. It is unclear when the man died or the causation. The SPD is continuing to investigate and an autopsy is planned.
Remember this last year
It was my neighbor who died in that vacant house, he was living next door with his brother and I guess was "kicked" out.
So the building burned AGAIN, it had been before and left a mess.
I talked to C. Erikson a few days ago, I don't know why got the snow job. But I mentioned the building right next door to this one that burned, a large brick building on the corner of Paige and Albany st. that is owned by the city, vacant for years, bricks falling down, sidewalk caved in. Told him they should send code enforcement there if they want the city to "look' better.
