Police in Schenectady and Albany are warning residents of a scam in which a man falsely claims he is a city employee and tries to get inside a home.
Two men are knocking on doors in Schenectady and falsely claiming to be Water Department employees, police said.
They are asking to be let inside private homes, police said. Schenectady police said it is a dangerous scam and urged residents to be vigilant. Police said homeowners should not let the men in and should call authorities if one of the men asks to enter their home.

Remember a few years ago when Schenectady code inspectors were banging on doors asking to look inside City properties? We ALWAYS refused to let them in and told them to get a warrant if they needed to come in.

The fact of the matter is that if I lived within the border of the City of Schenectady, I would be more willing to let these people in my house / apartment / condo / box in the alley if they told me that they needed something or were just looking to do something than if they actually told me the worked for the City. The fact is that if they tell me they're from the city, I would want to know why they needed to come into my place of residence.
Not the same subject but when I saw the Headlines I thought it was something else.
With the Water and Sewer Balancesheets stuffed with cash due to the fees, expect alot of the city employees to appear as though they work for the water department but dont. Also expect some trucks and equipement that are bought with Water and Sewer funds but end up sanding the roads....
