Rotterdam Town Board meeting days halved
Board approves moving agenda meetings to same day as regular meetings

By John Purcell As of Tuesday, May 15, 2012 -8:31 p.m.

#ROTTERDAM — Citizens interested in Rotterdam’s Town Board will now have to visit Town Hall half as often.

#The Rotterdam Town Board at its Wednesday, April 25, meeting approved holding agenda meetings at 5:30 p.m. prior to regularly scheduled board meetings. The board has previously held agenda meetings at 5:30 p.m. the Monday before the regular Wednesday meeting.

#Councilman Robert Godlewski cast the sole vote against the switch, with the other four board members voicing no qualms against it.

#Godlewski motioned to table the resolution to further discuss the switch, but nobody seconded that.

#“In essence what we are doing it doubling up on a meeting,” Godlewski said. “The reason … we have had these meetings is if there is any changes to be made or any request by board members they are made at that agenda meeting.”

#Godlewski said there have been numerous changes to agendas during the Monday meeting. He said this will not allow the public to know about any changes or updates to the draft of the agenda.

#“I find it very hard to understand or even follow it logically to expect the public to come to an agenda meeting at 5:30 and then stick around to seven o’clock for the regular Town Board meeting,” Godlewski said. “I don’t think it is reasonable.”............................>>>>...........................>>>>.......................http://www.schenectadyspotlight.com/news/2012/may/15/rotterdam-town-board-meeting-days-halved/

This will cut down on those pesky objections from the taxpayer because by the time they find out what's happening it will be too late to object.

So if they add a new resolution to the agenda during the agenda meeting, how will the public be made aware?   Will the revised agenda be posted on line at 6:00 or 6:30pm?  Come on, that's not fair!

The REGIME has passed a law designed to further the residents from the government....quesstions are never answered ....speaking at the podium

is limited.....and now even more so now that these meetings are on the same night.....less residents will attend....and now many don't attend...

the REGIME has proved that this team has the power that was inevitable .....

and if they have cut down on an open door policy....in essence should give them more time to appear at the events held in this Town..

Understand none of the REGIME takes community events seriously....isn't that who elected them in the first place????

Just a note...this team is so hypocritical    .didn't FDG want less meetings.???....but was shot down ....FDG prevails...

ROTTERDAM ASKED FOR IT.....

The problem here is that the agenda meeting was posted on rotterdam's website 'before' the actual tb meeting. This allowed those who go to the site for information could see and be prepared at the tb meeting. And in more cases then not, this on line info was passed through town by word of mouth. This really has nothing to do with how many folks actually 'show up' at an agenda meeting. Word got out thru the town website!

This is apparently another attempt at shutting down the democracy process. Only in backwards rotterdam do they go backward instead of forward with technology, transparency and open government.

The town is a sh!thole!!!

Another DEM moron working together update! Keep the sheeple taxpayers in the dark and feed them BS. They will still re-elect every Krat because they are for the people and care a lot. Besides Romney's a rich job creator. Hooray for me-screw you.

"Citizens interested in Rotterdam’s Town Board will now have to visit Town Hall half as often..."

This makes it sound like a good thing and not what it really is, which is the Dem caucus meeting in private sans Godlewski to do all their business behind closed doors and out of the public purview. Transparent and open government through the wood of a closed door. Stay classy Rotterdam!

...and you're still visiting the same number of times, just on half the number of days... unless they expect the public to hang out between the 2 meetings.  Do they?  Is it like a coffee hour with the board?

The people of Rotterdam are VEREY happy that they need only visit Town Hall ONCE to find out what the Leadership of Rotterdam is doing to improve the Town -- after the very disastrous administrations of those who will not be mentioned.

#Supervisor Harry Buffardi said after the meeting he does not think it unreasonable to hold the agenda meeting prior to the regular meeting. He noted the time of the agenda meeting is remaining unchanged.

#Also, there are traditionally very few residents at the agenda meetings, he said.

#“The public routinely does not attend agenda meetings,” he said.

Uh, HELLO!!!!!!    Meeting at 5:30    HELLO.      People have jobs.   What kind of nitwit is he?     Can he explain HOW people, generally who work til 5 pm, can get to a meeting for 5:30?????

Perhaps the unemployed cheerleader for higher taxes -- DV   -- can explain how people can attend a 5:30 meeting when they work til 5 pm

And how about the residents have a birthright entitlement to have ADVANCE notice of what is scheduled for a government meeting.   It is TOTALLY WRONG to plan the agenda for a meeting just prior to a meeting.   What, is everyone in the whole town supposed to go to town hall just to find out what was planned for that evening?   No, residents MUST have ADVANCE notice.

It is quite obvious that the DEMS are TOTALLY OPPOSED to transparency.   They want to do as much as possible in secret.
