What is a miscarriage?
Miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy in the first 20 weeks. (Often called "spontaneous abortion")
About 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, and more than 80 percent
of these losses happen before 12 weeks.
(10 to 20%)

This doesn't include situations in which you lose a fertilized egg before a pregnancy becomes
established.
Studies have found that 30 to 50 percent of fertilized eggs are lost before or during the process of implantation
– often so early that a woman goes on to get her period at about the expected time.
(Add to the 10-20%, 30 to 50% lost by failing to implant.)

The exact number is unknown, but most women will not know that they are pregnant if the eggs fail to implant,
but studies show the number is around 50%.

This is what you said:
"More than half of all pregnancies end with out a baby... most of those clumps of cells in the early stages
do not eventually become a baby."

Now, you're talking about counting "before pregnancy is established" Talk about splitting hairs...

This response stinks of your famous embellishment. Give me a website to go to that says the same, or I'll assume you're talking out of your arse (again).

If I carry in an acorn or a chicken egg into the White House for a tour, do I have to disclose on the register that I am bringing in an oak tree and a chicken?

WOW! Tbird just violated a cardinal rule of Conservatives!
To most of the Rabid Right, a fertilized egg is a HUMAN BEING!  NOT A CLUMP OF CELLS BUT A HUMAN...
We'll call him BOB!
So TBird, are you really saying that a fertilized egg is NOT A HUMAN... Cause if you are... then we agree!!!

As many as 75% of all conceptions miscarry.

This statistic is an estimate for the percentage of fertilized eggs that do not go on to result in a
full-term pregnancy, factoring in miscarriages but also failed implantations that usually pass without
the mother ever missing a period.
If you already know you're pregnant, this is not a number you
should be worrying about.

Because there's only around a 30% chance of getting pregnant each menstrual cycle even when
you're having regular sex, researchers speculate that fertilized eggs often fail to implant, usually
with the woman unaware that conception occurred. Laboratory studies on IVF patients have
found that a very large percentage of eggs harbor chromosome abnormalities (the leading cause
of miscarriage), and another study found that in natural cycles, about 22% of all conceptions
never complete implantation. Considering such evidence, some scientists have speculated that
if you factor in fertilized eggs that don't implant along with pregnancies that end in miscarriage,
around 70-75% of conceptions end up miscarrying.

A woman who is carrying a clump of cells, that in 9 months may or may not become a baby, who is
planning to visit the White House and a White House tour... should make a reservation for the expected baby,
if the tour date is beyond her due date.

More than half of all pregnancies end with out a baby... most of those clumps of cells in the early stages
do not eventually become a baby.

If a woman is planning to visit the White House tour, and is pregnant she only has to make a reservation for
the PEOPLE WHO WILL ATTEND... NO RESERVATION IS REQUIRED FOR THE CLUMP OF CELLS.

because most things in life we have no control over and that includes the statement "Hi I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

when a woman has an abortion they are VERY aware of what those cells' potential is.....just like a soldier in war knows the potential of the
enemy he just killed.....

abortion is not like eating a good dessert or a drinking a good wine just because the words get changed to be more palatable....

the world is that hard

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Again, since you posted NO study, no link, no verification, I assume you're talking out of your arse.
To support your more than half are unsuccessful bullshit, you've gone from including pregnancy, to including "a fertilized egg before a pregnancy becomes established, to now calling it "conception".

I know in Marine boot camp they brainwash you in to thinking a Marine never F's up, but you did.
I know it, the people that read this thread know it, and deep down, you know it. We all do from time to time, its called being human.

I don't consider a pregnancy to be a viable human being until it gets to the point where modern medical science could deliver that pregnancy into the world successfully. As medical science advances, the shorter period of time within the normal 9 month pregnancy that becomes. I have no idea what that time period is today, but I would guess in the range of 6-7 months.

TBird... If you think that a fertilized egg is NOT a human being, then you disagree with many on this board
who (get this) consider a fertilized egg to be a HUMAN BABY!  (Amazing)

They consider the act of CONCEPTION, when the sperm enters the egg, an act of GOD which creates a
human baby.  I'm glad that we agree, as do most people that a fertilized egg is nothing more than a
"clump of cells".

As to my original post about half of all pregnancies ending in spontaneous abortions, this is from:
U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001488.htm

"It is estimated that up to half of all fertilized eggs die and are lost (aborted) spontaneously,
usually before the woman knows she is pregnant."

If you disagree with the word "pregnant" in this case... it's their words, not mine.

(Hope this helped you learned something!   )

Tbird,
When you post about what "I KNOW", you have no way of knowing what "I KNOW"... of course, and most
of your assumptions are laughable.

Your post:
"in Marine boot camp they brainwash you in to thinking a Marine never F's up"
... shows how little you really do know.  Where did you ever get the idea that any Marine thinks that he
never F's up???
You really make some strange assumptions... then post them as "I KNOW".

I could care less who I agree with or who I don't. It's your type of thinking, and this occurs on BOTH sides, that has lead us to the non-functional, non-compromising  government we have today.

Estimated is the key word, which means they have no proof. Just like any scientific theory....like the predicted Ice age theory in the 1970's and climate change calamity theory today.
It's like estimating how many trees fall in the forest without seeing either the falling or aftermath.
It's theory that the woman on the street does not know or could care less about.
We deal in reality, which is what the site I listed is going on. When you ask a woman how many times they have been pregnant, they aren't going to call a Scientist before they give an answer.

I got this direct from several ex-marines in my family and other ex-marine friends.
I'm sure as hell going to take what I have heard from them as closer to the truth than someone like you who pigeon holes people, will NEVER admit that they made a mistake, and tries to pass off embellishments to headlines as coming from the article the headline originated from.

I can't speak for other Marines, but only for myself, and several relatives who are/were also US Marines.
IMO, anyone who thinks that they never F'up is pig headed, and conceited.

One important lesson taught in the Marines deals directly with what to do when things "GO WRONG"...
When Marines "MAKE  MISTAKES" and how to deal with the issue at hand.

What you assume they taught is your opinion, but consider this:
One lasting lesson taught in the Corps is this phrase...
"ADAPT, IMPROVISE & OVERCOME".
When "mistakes are made" or when you f' things up... you follow the above advice... you don't quit
or hide or blame the Marine who made the mistake...
YOU 'ADAPT, IMPROVISE & OVERCOME!
