James Longo is a FINE individual and BEST MAN to continue on with the job -- I would be VERY chagrined to think that the Republican Party would EVER consider challenging him after endorsing him for so many fruitful terms of office..

ROTTERDAM Longo flips parties, rejoins town Democrats Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.
Long-time Highway Superintendent James Longo has become the latest person to abandon the local Republican Party to join the Rotterdam Democrats. Longo, who switched his enrollment from Democrat to Republican when he was first elected to his post eight years ago, said he decided to switch again after working with the administration of Supervisor Harry Buffardi. He said he wanted “to become part of the team” after admiring the direction the Democrat-led administration is taking the town. “Nobody recruited me,” he said Tuesday after making the switch last week. “It was all my idea.” In a letter to the town Republican Committee, Longo also cited his disappointment over not being selected to run for the district now represented by Republican state Assemblyman George Amedore Jr. Party leaders chose Tom Quackenbush, the supervisor of the Montgomery County town of Minden, to face Schenectady County Legislator Angelo Santabarbara in November’s election. Amedore is seeking a Senate seat. Republican Committee Chairwoman Tracy Donovan was dismayed by Longo’s decision to leave. Yet she said the party remains strong and continues to unify behind traditional Republican principles. “We were very saddened by his decision, however we’re going to still continue unifying the GOP,” she said. Longo’s exit from the party leaves Town Justice Ken Litz as the lone Republican elected offi cial in Rotterdam. His departure continues a trend of notable enrollment switches over the past three years. On New Year’s Eve in 2009, Santabarbara changed his enrollment to join the Democrats. He was followed by former Town Supervisor Joe Signore and former Rotterdam Republican Committee Chairman Gerard Parisi last year. Parisi, who also served as town attorney under GOP Town Supervisor Steve Tommasone, became the lone Republican on the board when he was appointed to replace the resigning Michael Della Villa in 2010. He chose not to run for re-election and instead waged an unsuccessful primary against Amedore later that year. Donovan said she wasn’t going to try to dissuade people not loyal to the party or its core issues from leaving. She said the party is moving forward with a goal of reasserting itself on both the county Legislature and in Town Hall during the election cycle next year. “We need strong people in our party that are united and believe in the Republican values,” she said. The departure of noted Rotterdam Republicans from the party mirrors a downward trend for the GOP in Schenectady County as a whole. Republican enrollment numbers have steadily declined since 2005. The county Board of Elections had 24,950 voters registered as Republicans, accounting for 28 percent of the county’s total enrollment. In contrast, the Democrats had 34,089 voters registered, accounting for 38 percent. Rotterdam is among three municipalities in the county with a clear majority of voters registered as Democrats; both the city of Schenectady and Niskayuna also have solid majorities. In fact, the town’s enrollment fi gures match the county’s enrollment percentages — 38 percent are registered as Democrats and 28 percent are registered as Republicans. County Democratic Committee Chairman Brian Quail said the increasing enrollment advantage of his party correlates with the overall shift in demographics across the county. He said the Democrats show a clear uptick in new enrollments most years, while the Republicans continue to see declines. ...............................>>>>..........................>>>>...............................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01700&AppName=1
Donovan is doing SUCH a great job on party "unity" ... Almost as good as Buchanan.
George W. Bush and the neo-cons DESTROYED the republican party. It will take a very special person to unite the neo conservative big government, big militarism, nation building, corporate welfare, platform with the small government, free markets capitalism, anti military adventurism that Paul has brought into the party. I know we are talking about a local party, but the basic principles about the role of government being discussed on the national level are happening on all levels of government. The local republican party is pro corporate welfare (metroplex) pro regulation, they subsidized and tried to pass a taxing district for REMS. There are a growing number of people that are not buying into the republican brand of big government.

Agree. But it goes beyond politics and exactly what they can accomplish with their ideology. It appears that the idea of 'GOV ALMIGHTY' is resonating favorably with the people. The majority appears to like the idea of 'being taken care of' and trusting GOV ALMIGHTY to make the decisions for them.....at any cost (taxes). The idea of independence, personal responsibility, working to supply one's needs is slowly becoming an antiquated way of thinking. The brain dead (and there are in the majority) have allowed themselves to be manipulated into surrendering their independence and welcoming dependence at all levels of their lives.
It also appears that the Ron Paul supporters are pretty much the only ones left who want smaller government, less government control, and personal liberties with personal and financial responsibility. Basically FREEDOM as the constitution states.
Ya just can't tell the difference between the lame stream dems / reps anymore!
