ALBANY — In a change of plans, President Obama will go to the University at Albany College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering when he visits the Capital Region on Tuesday, according to a White House official.

Obama was to have gone to GlobalFoundries in Malta, the company building a $4.6 billion computer chip factory — known as Fab 8 — that started production earlier this year.
According to the White House, the change was made for logistical reasons, but GlobalFoundries will still participate in the NanoCollege event.

GlobalFoundries spokesman Travis Bullard said Friday afternoon that after two days of meeting with Obama's advance team at the Fab 8 site, the decision was made that for several reasons the NanoCollege was a better fit.

There was a big story on the cbs news last night about the nano-college.........................interviewed one blue collar guy working in a clean room there who had been laid off from a factory and had gotten hired there.....................seems to be a lot of hope in that area..................doubt I'll live long enough to see any real benefit if there is any

Latest reports suggest that the visit will be to the Nano Science Center instead.   I wonder if our local Congressmen will spend taxpayer dollars to fly TO Washington just to FLY BACK  on Air Force One as was done for the last 2 Presidential visits.  

Here's a hint -- show the taxpayers you really are serious about saving our money .. and just stay in town and wait for his arrival like everyone else.

Since I am I own a home, since I have a job, I am a taxpayer, so if I say "saving our money" I'm speaking on behalf of us who are taxpayers.

You however are not a taxpayer, so just write "saving the taxpayers' money"

Funny how nobody ever mentions that, huh?
Like that "piece" on ABC(?) about how out of all the places that company could have chosen, they chose Malta, because we're SPECIAL.
They went on. and on about "small town America" making a resurgence, completely neglecting to mention it's proximity to Albany, Boston, NYC, Canada, etc.

And yes, they very noticeably left out the fact that we PAID THEM to come here.

Was it on CBS, as in nationally? Or was it just on channel 6? There's a big difference.
As for long term benefit, high-tech is very unstable by it's nature, and for all anyone knows, a new technology could come out tommorrow that makes AMD chips go the way of the buggy whip.
Not even Intel^TM is safe, and they offer a superior product.
AMD only beats them on price.

Couldn't tell ya Tommy..............I came across it in the middle,,,,,,,it was on the national broadcast I think, cause it was after 7pm.....whether or not it was produced for local consumption only I'm not sure.........................the only thing I found interesting was how they were promoting the idea that some un-tech savvy schlub could be retrained to work in a high-tech environment.......................to be honest I doubt the whole thing will have any effect on me or my generation.....and you 50 somethings I seriously doubt you'll get any benefit either.......the 40 something's may have an outside chance of seeing some good, but I doubt it .........................if you're in your 30's or younger, well you've probably got the best chance of reaping any benefits from the whole thing..............God!!!! I love waking up with all this unbridled optimism, no cynicism here folks......

Not really, just tellin' it the way I see it from here..........don't know whether I'm right or wrong, but if you believe things are gonna make a miraculous turnaround in the very near future, well.............................I thought I was old when I turned 30,40,50,60,65 that's we used to say each decade "Damn we're old!".................but seriously, the only time I realize the whole age thing is when I look in the mirror (scares me every morning) oh and there's that thing that when I get out of bed every morning something new hurts or doesn't feel right.............if I went to the doctor every time this happened I already would have depleted the health care industry.............as long as I don't dwell on that geezer staring back at me in the morning I don't have a problem, I'm still 25 in my own mind......just have a little more of the wisdom you get from life experience................and I really do hope things get better for you guys and gals, just don't see it happening any time soon...

Maybe some of the people from California who lost their jobs can come to Malta and greet the President. Global Foundaries fled CA for NY for the taxbreaks and truckload of taxpayer money to build the location.

Who lost more, CA lost the jobs and tax money while NY gets the jobs and a tax-exempt million dollar industry.  

Seems wrong that taxpayers are responsible to fund businesses in NYS.

Plans changed.....it's now Albany.......

Even more of OUR tax dollars could be saved if he just stayed in Washington DC and made his appearance via satellite.
