McCarthy is still in denial. Sounds like he was up all night crying on Talk 1300. All cuts should be on the table. It's the record taxes-stupid. This is what happens when the head of the City Council, who also sits on Metrograft/OSM becomes Mayor. Zero checks and balances. Roger Hull was right from the beginning and should have won in a landslide. But at least he painted a freaking line in the street. Was it red?

Right.   And typical dems, "but we sold the tax liens and now we switched to internal collections...."  And they think it's good.

DUH, it was THE DEMS, the freakin' DEMS sold the tax liens to begin with claiming it would save the city.   Now they are claiming they will save by doing it internally.

The dem SAVAGE woman fled the county government but stated, about Schenectady,  "It's a MIRACLE," and of course not a word out of her now

The dem ex-mayor, fled the city government job in his second term after he started his first term creating the trash fee proudly proclaiming it would be the "saving grace" for the city.   Hiked that fee, fled the city govt to another cushy govt job indicating he's qualified for that job because he "knows all" about the canals because "the water goes in, the boats go up...."

The current dem mayor has done NOTHING to save the taxpayer money by prohibiting city employees from taking daily pleasure drives far far outside the city.   The current dem mayor has done NOTHING to make the millionaires and billionaires downtown pay their taxes, but prefers to force that heavy burden on the homeowners.

And lastly, the resident board cheerleader for the dems who spent almost two years on this board in total support of the city dems and proudly proclaiming and posting on this board that Schenectady is wonderful, and it's in this grand "renaissance" -- well, he fled this board, he is so very very embarassed being proven WRONG.

And we, those of us who live outside the city OR inside the city, who are intelligent and know the truths, we WILL continue on and on and, as always, we will provide THE EVIDENCE that supports our statements (unlike cheerleader and his imaginery friends)

McCarthy made a total fool of himself on Talk 1300. There is no fat to cut? Full speed ahead on bankruptcy! Refuses to face reality that he destroyed the tax base with his insane over taxation. He keeps blaming "slow tax receipts". Sandy Family talked about trying to sell his mama's house on upper Union St that is assessed for over $170,000 with taxes over $7,000! Not one person will look at it. Mayor Al's $700,000 deficit doesn't look so bad today.

collective mass suicide is about the only option left. Next year there will be 3,000 empty homes.

Start shopping for a bankruptcy lawyer. Thanks, Paulino.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

They're too stunad to file bankruptcy. They want to bleed property owners longer. Someone go to Hong Kong and interview Finance Chair Carl Erikson. This is a scandal. The DEMS all knew and looked the other way until after the election hoping Roger Hull would have the mess to deal with. Then 40 morons voted. The State Comptroller must now come in for an audit. Metrograft is doing a great job taking prime Downtown property permanently off the City tax rolls. Anyone could see this coming a mile away except the current Mayor his 6 DEM stooges on the City Council.

...And the "conservative" Republicans that created Metroplex that couldn't see the inevitable moral hazard it would create.

I've been saying this every chance i get.  The tax situation is crippling.  I looked at houses for in this county for about two years.  300+ houses crossed my inbox that i'm sure.  Time and Time again i had to cross houses off that were in my pricerange but 2-3K higher then all the other houses in the same price bracket.  It's BROKEN!  and until it's fixed, revenue will go down..down..down..down...  They are trying to patch a boat with bubblegum that has machine gun holes riddled through it.

http://hudsonvalley.ynn.com/content/top_stories/582905/city-of-schenectady-ends-2011-in-deficit/

"It's significant," said Mayor Gary McCarthy.

But the Schenectady Mayor said not surprising.

He was talking about the nearly $5 million deficit the city faced at the end of 2011. The numbers recently filed with the State Comptroller's office in an Annual Financial Report.

"It was really a situation that was hard to avoid," he said.

Mayor McCarthy said Schenectady used to sell its tax liens, collecting late payments up front. But now, the city is stopping that practice.

"It will position the city for long-term growth, but we're going to go through really what's a 24 month or 30 month adjustment in the way the city has dealt with again, the collection of taxes," McCarthy explained.

By being more aggressive in tax collection, McCarthy hopes to break even by the end of 2012. And said Schenectady will see surplus, the year after.

But City Councilman Vince Riggi said fixing the financial situation should start now, calling on the adoption of an austerity budget.
"You only spend what you have to spend, all projects will be put on hold, hiring will be put on hold, everything will be put on hold. And I think that's what we should do right now until we get our arms around where we're at," said the Independent.

Mayor McCarthy expects a more detailed analysis of the city's finances after an audit is released in the next few weeks.

A spokesperson for the State Comptroller's office said it's not unusual for a city to end a year in the red and that the state looks more closely at a city if the deficit continues for more than one year.

Not surprising? then how come the council is claiming they knew NOTHING about it?

Vince has the right ideas, stop ALL spending NOW.

Bids went out and some were awarded already.
