or maybe the proctors kind of volunteers that will pay for the privilege of baby sitting some one else's problem.........................ya know those "teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs".....
I work with ALOT of folks (being a nurse's aide=working at walmart) who have babies for $$....they came from downstate where it is VERY prevalent.....the thinking that WIC/food stamps/heap and such will keep them surviving is what they are accustomed to.....there are even mommy-clubs....babies by different daddys...
this is BEYOND PP.....they DID plan on having these babies...they hide behind the pretense of 'I could never have an abortion' "I didn't know this could happen" 'he loves me' etc etc........
garbage in(maybe not to a fault of their own) = garbage out.....
the sad thing is, is that if these folks were better learned/educated we couldn't underpay them....Rome would cease to afford itself.....and besides "that's what women are for".......
when WIC becomes FIC........let me know.....

Why blame the liberals. The "Average American" gave up. We are all too lazy to try to parent our kids. We are all too busy.
Speak for yourself on the lazy part. I do agree with you on the "don't blame liberals" part.
My advice is - DON'T LET SCHOOLS REPLACE YOU AS THE PARENT. Manage your school like any general contractor you would hire. Continually remind your child that their teacher is not a family member and that the teacher’s opinions are just that, OPINONS. This is not to tell your child to be disrespectful or disruptive, and not to pay attention when being taught the 3 R’s, but a clear message that they do not have to be OBEDIENT to the state hire pedagogue.
Abstinence policy cut teen pregnancies in Sch’dy prior to 2008
Re May 2 article, “Teen pregnancies on rise in city”: Kathleen Moore suggests that the absence of Planned Parenthood and an emphasis on abstinence-based sex education in the Schenectady schools is responsible for Schenectady’s recent increase in teen pregnancy rates. I looked at city data back to 2006 and Albany and Schenectady county data back to 1997 from the Department of Vital Statistics. Like the rest of the nation, both Albany and Schenectady counties have seen a steady decline in teen pregnancy since 1997. In the last couple of years, both counties saw an increase in teen pregnancies. Similarly, the city data shows that both Albany and Schenectady teen pregnancies decreased from 2006 to 2008, then increased again from 2008 to 2010. Unfortunately, I could not fi nd city data prior to 2006, but I suspect that there was a decline in teen pregnancies mirroring the county data, since the county numbers will be heavily influenced by city numbers. From 2006 to 2010 the county data approximately mirrors the city data. As Ms. Moore noted, there was no change in the Schenectady curriculum since the 1990s. Thus I do not believe it is justified to blame abstinence education for the recent increase in teen pregnancies unless you are willing to credit it for the decline prior to 2009. I’m not arguing for or against the Schenectady curriculum, but I do sense a bias in how various media outlets cover the controversy of sex education.
has WIC become FIC or MIC yet?.....anyone? anyone?......help me out here......go ahead and tell me about abortion because they are ONLY cells....go ahead Box....I'm waiting for your cheerleading and guidance.....

Re May 2 article, “Teen pregnancies on rise in city”: We applaud the Gazette’s decision to highlight the problem of teen pregnancy in Schenectady County. Despite overall decreases throughout the country, teen pregnancy is on the rise in Schenectady, a fact that we, as health care workers, have been witnessing clinically. Not only are we experiencing increased rates in the 15- to 19-year-old group but, even more alarming, we are now seeing more in the 10- to 14-year-old group. Clearly the abstinence-based education program has not been effective. The Albany school system appears to be attacking the problem, as it has welcomed Planned Parenthood into the schools from middle school on, and introduced its skillscommunication-based program. Why is Planned Parenthood not welcome in Schenectady schools? The statistics and the child parents we see would indicate that this should no longer be tolerated. Where is the Schenectady school board when we need them? The societal and health care costs of caring for these children having children, and their children, far exceed the implementation of one school-based program.

Wonder if the dr. works for PP and why not include all drs names ?
Teens KNOW about birth control, they just are not using it. Telling them to use it is not going to work, just like telling teens in the 50's not to listen to Elvis.

This author is an MD? Why such an illogical argument? Dr. Levine acknowledges the overall decrease in teen pregnancy, but for some reason, Dr. Levine doesn't credit abstinence based education for the "overall decrease". I don't see how that's possible.
Lucky for Dr. Levine, this newspaper is mostly circulated in Schenectady where people are too poorly educated to recognize the inconsistency of her letter.

Abstinence works every time it is tried. The problem is the weakness of the human character, not abstinence. Because of that, we have pills, devices, etc. I have nothing against any of it. But lets stop the fallacy of abstinence not working. Prescription medication doesn't work either, that is, unless you actually take it.

I totally agree, we've all been in that situation when we were young and when it happens there is only one thing on the mind and it isn't PP.
