According to the Republican spokesman, Alexandra Franceschi, Specialty Media Press Secretary of the
Republican National Committee:
~ "Republican Economic Platform Will Be The Bush Program, ‘Just Updated’" ~

(I guess Conservatives figure that the Bush Plan worked so well, they'll try it again this year with The Mitt!)

Hypocrisy alert:

House Republican freshmen are begging their leaders to bring back a certain type of earmark so that
they can help companies back home in an election year.
In a letter to Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, 65 House Republican freshmen
— or roughly three-quarters of the class — asked that the House consider a miscellaneous tariff bill jampacked
with special provisions to suspend duties on various foreign goods, even though it runs counter to the earmark
ban Republicans campaigned on in 2010 and instituted when they took power.

92% of Americians prefer Swedish model to US model when given a choice...

Americans generally underestimate the degree of income inequality in the United States, and if given a choice,
would distribute wealth in a similar way to the social democracies of Scandinavia.

Relative preference among all respondents for three
distributions: Sweden (upper left), an equal distribution (upper
right), and the United States (bottom). Pie charts depict the
percentage of wealth possessed by each quintile; for instance,
in the United States, the top wealth quintile owns 84% of the
total wealth, the second highest 11%, and so on.

because most of us are under educated as to the system we use and how to use it....our public school system and leaders FAILED to keep up the freedom of
personal gainship.....poor poor poor leadership rooted in public edumacation....

what is the 'wealth' definition in sweden? and people's preferences?

there is an undocumented 1% of control/wealth......the rest of us just say OK....even if it appears 'more equal'....public education weighs in HEAVILY upon a
society/generation's definitions of wealth/preference/comfort/health etc etc.........

Sweden just APPEARS not to be China

I'm not saying they are not comfortable in their 'cast' but multiple things would have to be stripped from the American psyche/soul to render it Miranda(reference to
Serenity movie and use of government approved drugs on the populace)

please pass the bong

Swedish education

From preschool onwards, Swedes are encouraged to think independently. It’s one way Sweden maintains its long and proud tradition of innovation.

This innovative spirit can be seen in the fact that Sweden consistently tops European rankings in terms of research investments as a percentage of GDP and in the number of published scientific works per capita.

The educational system is based on tax-financed education for all, supported by publicly subsidized programs for further education, retraining, adult schools and study groups. The private business sector, meanwhile, offers an advanced system of further education and self-improvement.

No one is left behind; the Education Act states that children in need of special assistance at school should receive it. The law also says there must be equality in education for all children, wherever they live in Sweden and regardless of ability or disability.

Interestingly, the proportion of high-school graduates is slightly higher among people with disabilities than those without. The opposite is true in higher education, although an increasing number of students with disabilities are now going to university and college.

Life expectancy in Sweden is 79 for men and 83 for women.

There really is some good reading on their website.

Sweden is immigrant and visitor friendly.

Is there data  to show quality of life v life expectancy? I mean it's wonderful that we've been able to extend life, but the quality of those extended years in my experience is not necessarily rosy. Senders could write volumes on the subject I'm sure.

I have a friend 3 years older than I who could live until he's 80.......he sits in a wheelchair unable to speak, wearing a diaper, and in the last year seems to have become aware of his situation because he begins to weep inconsolably for hours, his son and daughter have been so effected that they can no longer bear to visit him.........and he could live until he's 80 thanks to modern medicine. Is that a good thing? Maybe at one time I thought so but the reality is quite the opposite.

Maybe you're not old enough yet to have experienced the day to day heartbreak of caring for someone who's life expectancy has been increased......I have........when you've cared for an elderly parent, for years, changing their diapers, feeding them the thousands of pills they need monthly so they can stay alive and increase that life expectancy then tell me an increased life expectancy is a good thing.

Of course you could always warehouse that aging relative in one of the many facilities available and then not have to deal with it. I always felt that was a cowards way out. Sometimes it's better to just let go rather than to extend our loved ones lives. I think it's pretty selfish that we do that, and then proclaim how wonderful it is that we've been able to increase life expectancy.
