Dozens rally for Mohonasen Print Story Published: 4/20 8:25 pm Share Updated: 4/20 9:57 pm
Dozens of students, teachers, and parents protested outside Mohonasen High School on Friday asking for more funding from the state.
"New York state has shifted its priorities. New York state is no longer interested in educating its youth," said Mohonasen Teachers' Association President Maria Pacheco.
Pacheco said since 2009 the school district has had to cut 50 full-time teachers, 17 support staff, and more than five administrators.
More than seven million dollars of funding have been cut from the Mohonasen school district's budget during those years, according to Pacheco. And painful cuts will have to be made for the coming school year.
"Most of the cuts are going to be for the extracurriculars: their music, their sports, so [students] are starting to see things that they love to do after school being affected," said Pacheco.................>>>>................>>>>.........................http://www.fox23news.com/news/.....zKMZWxDw.cspx?rss=39

So are these kids still going to be learning reading, writing and arithmetic????

When are all these people going to learn that schools exist to LEARN, and learn only absolute essentials.
You want enrichment stuff such as dance classes, baton twirling etc, go to Merritts and the others.
You want to play sports, go join a youth sport league.
Oh, sports provides "healthy competition" among teams. So, have a team competition in arithmetic
The more fluff and fun classes, and the more sports, then that's the more teachers and sports coaches that need to be hired. And we know the result of all that too

Oh, do the kids need something to do? Something to keep occupied with?
How about more homework, require more books to be read.

If parents and students want to decide the curriculum, restrict school taxes to parents and students.
AMEN !
