Went out metal detecting today at Central Park here are some of my finds , top row is all the casings, bottom row is actual bullets. I would expect this at Jerry Burrell park not Central.

We went this morning by Lock 7 in Niskayuna ... found a few coins (newer) and some misc pieces, but nothing cool like that.
I love detecting near the river, here is one of my cool finds from near the shore. This is a cannon barrel from a boot pistol, it dates from around the 1830's

Well, it should be VERY important to save the lives of children who play in the park, or the elderly who take walks in the park.
The residents of the city are entited to know what is going on in the park.
Of course, DV aka Ham will say it must be kept a secret, must never tell the TRUTH of what is going on, but then when someone is killed, then what?
Go to the news with this and the police and the city council meeting. Don't tip off the council ahead of time (DV is now furiously telephoning McC to give him a heads up)
Actually, you CAN go to Vince Riggi because he is the ONE representative of the RESIDENTS of the city--i.e., the people that LIVE in the city and pay almost the highest taxes in the whole country on low incomes while their home values plummet.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Henry - is there any place in the Junction - or by the lock on Rice Rd worth exploring? Might make for a Monday morning trip
Not that I really know of, I detected Hillhurst park a few times on Campbell Rd heading towards Rotterdam Square mall, a lot of trash but I pulled a few keepers from there. That park used to have a mansion on the property years ago but once the park was constructed they filled in the area with new dirt. The very front of the park is still original though and that is where I found some older stuff.
I never even thought about detecting lock 7, did you detect along the wall where people fish? I'm guessing there would be tons of pocket spills in that area.

I've seen people detecting on Rice Rd. where Schmerhorn (sp) intersects...........that empty lot where the two brick buildings used to be...........that's right across the street from the old lock....................might be interesting to walk along the bike path too.

This is only a small amount of the bullets and casings I found in the park, I tossed most of them but after I kept finding them I figured I would throw them in my pocket to show everyone. Some of them are very old considering the white patina which you can see building up on the lead, that takes awhile to form. The shotgun rounds are also old considering there was no plastic shell on it which leads me to believe they were paper housings. All in all I thought it was interesting and figured people here might like to know what really takes place in that area

Might have to give the lock/bike path area a try. Years ago we pulled up a couple small musket balls and some not so ancient coinage .. haven't been down there in years.

Pass them down to your grandkids. A few centuries from now, they'll be valuable relics from "The Hundred Year Drug War".

I also metal detect, have not found anything as nice as Henry has but have also seen all of the bullets at Central Park ?! Many of the trails are loaded with them. Just wondering if many years ago could there have been a shooting range in that area? Today I found something that rang up metal, dug it up and it almost looked like a "deformed" bone with teeth in it. I have no idea what it is, but definitely metal in it.
