[color=red][/color][b][/b]STONYBROOK, Long Island, a 'school' has decided that Good Friday is coming off the school calendar. My first impulse, make religious 'holidays' floaters. A student can take off his religious holiday without prejudice. Non believers get a floater. Teachers with anti religious bias schedule test on Good Friday, it must be understood this is not to be. Teachers, they are paid to work not take time off. The NYS Legislature excuses itself on Easter/Passover. A student can learn on religious holidays but politicians cannot work. It is curious how Christian religious holidays are always the focus. Maybe that is because America is a 'Christian nation'. Did I really write that, terrible me. If we recognized every religious holiday on school calendars teachers would be working about two months a year & Southwest stock would split. All those flights to Florida. Separation of church & state is tricky. It means different things to different people. My spin, America is one nation under God. No state religion is to be forced on the people but God can exist in the public.  |
