Quoted from Parent

Those trying to keep St John's open have requested a meeting with Father Carlino--as of Friday there had not been a response from him.

We have a new website
Save St John's  Website:  http://savesje.com/

On May 2, we are having a Gala to raise awareness and some money and to determine the type of support we can expect from the community. Please attend and support the school!

RSVP For the Alumni and Friends Gala at Mallozzi's
Mallozzi's Ballroom, 1930 Curry Rd, Schenectady, NY 12303
Wednesday, May 2, 2012
6 PM - 8 PM
Requested RSVP Date: Monday, April 30, 2012
$15 per person for Mallozzi's buffet dinner
Payment is due at event

No response from Carlino?   NO SURPRISING

Wow, Mallozzi's, one of DV's favorite places to pig out, wonder if he will be in attendance, probably not, he prefers only education-by-government, ya know, keep paying those outlandish UNAFFORDABLE salaries to all those part time workers (teachers) with lots and lots and lots of vacation timne, days off, generous insurance, and pensions that are causing homeowners to lose their homes.

I wish you well in your effort

So they are having their gala tonight.    Wonder if the resident board cheerleader for higher taxes for goverment schools, who lied about attending a government school when in reality actually attended Catholic schools, who has made comment that he supports Catholic education (but refuses to acknowledge that parents cannot afford it when they pay almost the highest taxes in the whole country), wonder if he will be in attendance at this all you can eat function (especially since it is at a business owned by a wealthy family who was paid by the taxpayers to move from one address to another WITHIN the county and now does not pay taxes despite making money).

Let's see how much he really supports Catholic education or is that a lie too.

Maybe he is still feeling bad seeing as the wrong brother died.

While it's sure sad for the parents, it's a given that they are going to face an unbelievably high increase in their city tax bill come January, and sadly, thanks to DV's dem team, the parents won't be able to pay the city taxes AND support the school

Sad, at a time when a good education is needed, I think the Dems bad news is going to be the death of the school

Well, when a group of thugs actually tries to drive YOU bankrupt and destroy your life, tell me how much compassion you have for their losses. When he dies, at least I get to figuratively piss on his grave. You have no idea what kind of people you are up against. They plot and plan how to ruin their opposition, and I mean RUIN them- with every bit of trickery and savagery that can be dreamed up. I pull no punches and have no feelings for anyone left, anymore.

So there was a story in the diocese newspaper this week that this group that's trying to save St John's school were told by the pastor at St John's that they can forget it.  It's a done deal.   Decision will not be changed.   Hey, there's a different superintendent coming in the summer.

Heard in the parking lot, the word is that the pastor planned this closing years ago.  His excuse about money and enrollment was basically a LIE (kind of like DV, don't you think?   Heard in the parking lot this weekend that the teachers knew this years ago but basically were sworn to secrecy (maybe not the right words but you get the idea).  The school has the best scores on state tests, better than the diocese and better than in the state.   The pastor could have used a PR "campaign" of sorts to recruit new students, he could have advertised the financial aid packages available, he could have had fundraisers that would raise more money, he could have had more stories in the newspaper about the school, had parents interviewed to speak about how pleased they are with the school, how much they love the school, to both recruit more students and perhaps have some dedicated fund campaign for the school,  he could have written a "dear editor" letter, he could have had parents and teachers speak at Masses (like they have for missionaries looking for money) and parishoners that stand up to plead for money for the bishop, etc.

One banner hanging on a fence is not in any way adequate recruitment for the school.

But the pastor did NOTHING.

He basically recruited the pre-school kids to go to St Anthony's pre K and Kdg while totally ignoring St John's.

Heard in the parking lot, there have been no financial reports whatsoever included in the bulletin since he's been there.   Heard people say they had no idea of the school or the church's finances.   The parish is dwindling too.

Story goes he never wanted anything to do with the school and basically the school and rectory will go to Union College.   Not sure about the garage, heard in the parking lot, the garage was used to store things for the parish, like things for fundraiseres, now this pastor has a bunch of his personal boats there.

Heard in the parking lot, some parents are wondering, if they live IN the city, will the Schdy school district will bus their children out to Nisky and Guilderland for St Helens and St Sophie's.   If not, it's another reason to move OUT of the city.

A pastor that does not support his parish's school.   For shame.

Interesting that St John's is the only parish in the city that doesn't have an e-mail.

Because of the record DEM taxes and inability of pathetic McCarthy to budget or oversee any spending no one has money for tuition. Very few of these students paid full tuition and very few were in this parish. It's a tragedy. Schenectady City kids need many more educational options. This is why we need a charter school that is tuition free and will save tax dollars. Still say that Father Morette could turn this around and attract more families to SJ school. Look at the people running for City school board and you realize the full extent of the problem. Not one business person-not one with any budget expertise. Running to help their wife/cousin get a job. In this "renaissance" we close churches and Catholic schools.

Amazing......the city has a failing, substandard school system and the Catholic diocese has an opportunity of a lifetime to educate the kids who, they and their families so desperately desire. Looks like the Catholic diocese is turning out to be no better than the schenectady school system.

Best bet for these families are to move right out of the city and relocate to a community that supports and produces a good school system. Cause the city and obviously the catholic diocese ain't cuttin' it!

Another heard in the parking lot, they want to get people from St John's to not put money in their envelopes to send the message.
