there are a few small businesses that are looking to move out of that area. they say that the vandalism has increased so much that it is hard for them to find insurance coverage. And when they do find it.....it is very very very costly.

Rachel I've forgotten more about the issue of gangs in Schenectady than you will ever know, so please don't embarrass yourself by trying to lecture me about the problem.
My question was who said there was nota gang problem - if memory serves the Mayor was at the press conference which announced the indictment of 40+ members of teh 4 BLock gang.
My issue is the contant inaccurate assertions about crime issues in Schenectady. It doesn't help to undersestimate or exaggerate the problem.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist here folks. Just drive or walk around schenectady...especially mt. pleasant/hamilton hill....if you dare. Just ask the businesses(the ones that are left) and ask them if there are gangs. Go talk to the respectful, responsible folks who still live in those areas, and are still holding on to hope that their neighborhoods will be cleaned up....ask them if there is gang activity!!! Ask the 'good kids' that go to schenectady schools, and ask them if there are gangs.
