UPDATE mayor holds fundraiser for “first anniversary”
March 11, 2012 at 12:02 pm by Lauren Stanforth, Staff writer

We were surprised to see that there’s an invitation on Facebook for Schenectady Mayor Democrat Gary McCarthy’s “first anniversary party” on April 4 at the Stockade Inn. Not only because it seems a little presumptuous to celebrate since he’s only really been in the job for less than three months (the first anniversary refers to when Brian U. Stratton left and McCarthy took over as acting Mayor). But also because it’s obviously a fundraiser (individual tickets are between $50 and $1,000 and features “guest” U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko). We’re not sure, is it typical for local politicians to fundraise like this when an election is still more than three years away?\
McCarthy responded to an inquiry about the party Sunday by saying that he needs money to pay off his bills from the last election. Indeed, according to campaign finance reports from the state, it looks like he owes about $2,000 still (although, those records could be dated). His opponent Roger Hull appeared to be in debt more, owing roughly $14,000 more than he raised.

GREED AND STUPIDITY...and these people are running the government.....that's why METROPLEX is open for business...

Guess McCarthy's pension collection plus mayoral salary isn't enough...+ $200,000?

Or maybe the $3 million in City taxpayer dollars he promised to the Munic golf course hasn't been 'secured' yet?

Should have been held April 1st....total fool.

Unfortunately, it costs a lot of money to run for public office -- even for a town-wide or city-wide race.  Having an annual fundraiser ( or fundraisers in between election years) is NOT new nor is it uncommon.   Expect to see many Democrats and OTHERS wishing our dear friend - Gary McCarthy - congratulations on his 1st anniversary as Mayor and hoping that it is just the first of MANY YEARS for him in that office.

What's the matter, didn't the downtown millionaires give him enough money in return for exempting them from paying taxes?

You want to see him for many years in that office?    Then I guess you are saying you want to see the homeonwers flee the city even more as taxes are raised to give handouts to the millionaires and politically connected?    Obvoiusly you want to see the TAXABLE tax base stay the same while the the taxpayers are forced to shoulder even more burden of more tax exempt millioniares?

Yes?

There in lies the problem with politics, only those with money can run for office and that excludes many people who would do a much better job than those who have the money to run a campaign.

Money is half of it........the other half is when the political parties nominate a candidate that will 'play the game' and follow the movements of the 'puppet strings'!!

In an ideal world -- there would be no need for political lawn signs,  each candidate would send out 1 mailing outlining his/her background & qualification and 1 mailing outlining what his/her platform or agenda  and a then a whole bunch of  community forums/debates scheduled in each neighborhood and with questions directly from the voters ---  there would be no robo-calls, no endless stream of negative mailers/tv ads/radio ads and all of the other stuff which costs a lot of money but adds NOTHING to the actual knowledge-base of the average voters.

Of course -- in an ideal world -- city council and town council members would be elected from wards or districts so that EVERY party of the community is represented ..  and if there are any "at large seats" they would be filled PROPORTIONATELY to the votes received by each party.    Thus if  the Democratic slate got 40% and the GOP slate 40% and the third party slate 20 % --- the Dems would seat 40% of the at large council seats, the GOP 40% and the third party 20%.

I'm sure Gary is proud to have such dear friends who just spew their obscenities and can't provide any evidence of the statements they make.   I'm sure Gary would be pleased to read how his dear friends tell others the acronym you use.

Yes?

And DV STILL did not respond.

Well DV, are you stating that you want to see the TAXABLE tax base go down while the tax BILLS keep going up?   You can't answer that?
