From this week's Best of in Metroland. Best Shopping-DOWNTOWN 1. Saratoga Springs 2. TROY 3. Albany!
After flushing $100 MILLION in taxpayer funds, after all the lies at press conferences, after all the renaissance happy talk, after 12 years of Metrograft NOTHING. Not even one vote for the Miracle City? In any other jurisdiction someone would be held accountable and sent packing. Here they receive awards and huge bonuses,
Saratoga Springs used to be a nice place to -- but most of the owner-operated businesses are being replaced by ticky-tacky chain stores and parking is HORRENDOUS. Not to mention the risk of being mugged by some Republican -- either lost their job when Pataki was booted out or when the GOP sank Wall Street or a fundraiser for the state and local GOP party.
There are many vacant, failed businesses lining Route 9 as you approach Saratoga from Exit 13 of the Northway. Some of these have been empty for a number of years.

Ya, that's why they were voted #1 ... idiot. And you're on the planning board?? God help Rotterdam.
Fighting and clawing against reality is what the loser does best.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Uh, DV, please tell us what is happening to the property values in Saratoga?????? And tell us what is happening to the property values in Schenectady?????
You won't answer those questions, of course.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
The reason one of those places is empty is that Lord Obama decided to force GM to close dealerships and they had to close the GMC dealer that was there, leaving a small commerical property vacant, alas- but with a price tag on the market of several million. When someone can cough up the cash (the national economy is so wonderful under Democrat socialism) then it will end up being redeveloped. Nonetheless they are not selling it for a dollar to a prominent demoCRAP donor anytime soon like they do here in Schitnecktitty.

Saratoga had more votes than the others COMBINED. They announced yet another condo project bringing millions more into Saratoga coffers, Of course Schenectady after $100 MILLION in Metrograft flushing still has no retail, received zero votes for shopping Downtown, has $75,000 in TOTAL reserves and announced neighborhood sweeps to generate revenue above the highest tax rates in the State. Metrograft needs to announce a new curb/facade program/narrow another major street. That should turn it around- lol.
The theme of the thread is the "best shopping downtown" -- and quite honestly .. there is really no such thing as good downtown shopping in Albany, Schenectady, Troy or Saratoga Springs. Shopping - as good as it gets - is in the enclosed malls and strip malls scattered around the area ... and a few stand - owner-operated stand alone stores are exceptions.
Truth be told - if I had to rate the BEST Downtown Shopping experiences ... I would be hard-pressed to find one in upstate New York ... You really have to go South or West to see communities that have successfully revitalized their Downtown areas to the extent that they could seriously be labeled "BEST DOWNTOWN SHOPPING". But I would give high marks to places like Easton, Allentown and Scranton in Pennsylvania for their downtown shopping areas.
Schenectady is starting its RENAISSANCE -- but it does need more retail -- but it also needs more people (of all income levels) living Downtown as well. Metroplex has made a big difference .. turning Downtown Schenectady around from the horrible, ghost-town it was 10 years ago. And over the next decade, we will see continued progress and growth and RENAISSANCE.

Che Guevara
Very interesting that you chose to quote a marxist, supporter of socialism, and key player in the Cuban Revolution, Che Guevara, in your signature line.
Yet another reason you shouldn't be representing the planning and economic development of ANY community in the United States, let alone Rotterdam NY.
